works off your pairing.... If you are 1200, duo w/someone 1500, & win 50% of your games you will gain ELO and they will lose because you're averaging into 1350 games. Play in average games lower than your rating and lose, you will lose big, while a win only yields minimal gains (i.e. your expected to win if ur above the average and expected to lose if you're below).

It all boils down to the mathematics of the formula for ELO, if you know math it makes sense.

Because Riot doesnt understand matchmaking.

You shouldnt be having to deal with this until you are at a very high rank, but the ladder in LoL is all ****ed up.
