Because masteries don't cost anything and runes do.

rune pages can be bought using IP or riot points, therefore profit can be made if there was a need for more rune pages. If you could change rune pages on the fly then less profit would be made in sales of rune pages because you wouldn't need as many pages.

No profits are made from masteries.

ok something I do not understand with the rune combine, I put two critical strine runes in and i get one seel of ability power if i put to seels of attack speed in, I get wait for it one seel of ability power.

This is kinda silly, shouldnt the rune combiner loosely go off what was put in there, if its gonna make something completly diffrent it should me called the rune alchamizer not the rune combiner when you combine something, it makes something with the combine elements of what you created, If you alchamize something, you take something and you turn it into something else.

in other words if i put two teir 2 marks of critical strike in the rune combiner, being that the name sugests i am combine something, i should get something to a simular effect of what i put in. a mark with a greater amount of critical strike on it.

that is all

I like the rune system. It gives a character that everyone else is playing your own personal touch.

What I don't like about the current system is there is no incentive to purchase runes until level 20+ when you unlock the teir 3 runes. Yes, you do have the rune combiner system but that has some flaws in my own personal opinion.

I understand the reason for the rune combiner, it allows you to rid yourself of weaker runes for stronger runes allowing you to clean up your runepage area. The down side is the randomness of the combiner though. Ex. I play mostly ad champs. Most of my runes are attack damage, armor, magic resist, armor pen, ect. Now i combine them. It gives me flat ability power rune. Now what exactly am I supposed to do with that?

So here is my solution to the rune combiner. Allow it to be more customizable. Ex. If i put in 5 flat attack damage i will get a next teir rune with better attack damage. Also give an option to allow the user to preview the rune and then have a security question of, "do you will wish to make this rune?"

Incentive for Riot to make the suggested changes. Create a teir 4 rune. Make it so that these runes can only be obtained from the rune combiner. Now this aspect could by pass the rune preview screen. An example message could be, "you are messing with powers beyond your control and the outcome could be dire do you wish to continue?" Then give a percent based chance that nothing will happen(you get back 1 rune with the same stats as the 4 you used), you get a slightly stronger but not the strongest rune or you get a rune with the new max att dmage allowed for that rune. Ex. I combine 5 Flat AD runes, teir 3, +.95 attack damage into the rune combiner. The message appears and i click to continue. Based on the algorithm the game will either return the same rune, a slightly stronger rune(like +1 att. damage), or the rarer new teir 4 max rune of +1.2 att. damage. Now the reason Riot should impliment this or tweak the design abit and change the rune combiner is that the new rune can only be obtained from the rune combiner. This would potentially increase the sale of teir 3 runes as people start hurling them into the combiner. Potentially increasing Riots sale of RP. Thats in theory. Runes can still be bought with IP but they would have to do the research to see if this idea was worth it.

I personally would just like to see the rune combiner stop giving random runes. Then i might purchase some teir 1 or 2 runes knowing exactly what i will be getting later when i combine them. The other part of the planned change is just wishful thinking. Otherwise the only other plan i have about change is just do away with the rune combiner and just wait till lvl 20+ to buy runes.

Too much randomness in getting runes and the length of time it takes to get them is just silly. Why not remove runes and expand upon the Mastery system? That would be so much better... no need for trying to "collect them all."

runes are a good idea!! it takes skills and a brain to math up the runes and masteries together to make a skill based lanning phase. If there was no runes it would come down to how OP a champ was and i wouldn't play a game like that
