Very nice guide, I may just combine your item build and mine.
I heard a lot of people say you just need one lvl of q, but I always used to max it first and it works very well, a lot better than maxing w first for me.
My item build is a bit strange, but I'll present it anyway:
amplifying tome + pot
yes I buy sheen because he has a really low cooldown on most of his spells, and can auto attack some times between his spells, unfortunately the mana is totally wasted, but it also looks a lot better if you glow red while lightning rushing, especially since I have the deadly kennen skin xD.
with this I have enough survivability to take almost any beating, and kennen is good at farming so I get the stacks relativevly easy, but reading your guide I may exchange this for leviathan + rylai's, I wanted to try that anyway, and it sounds good.
->boots to merc treads
obvious choice here, anti cc and magic aoe rape. Ninja tabi are okay in a few cases aswell.
again a bit of waste with the mana regen, but with this+runes and blue elixir cdr is maxed. I may swap this though, because the attackspeed is not really useful.
Usually the game is done by here obviously, but if it isn't, I get guardian angel, it synergizes with the high hp I have and revives, I just love it.
Blue elixir is really good for kennen imo.
Not saying the guide is bad or anything, but getting Abyssal Scepter actually gives you less penetration because reduction is calculated first before MPen %.
The increase in damage might have been the AP boost between the two items.
Abyssal will increase your ally's damage towards affected champions. It won't, however, give yourself more penetration.
Althoguh saving a spot for Abyssal can save the problem...
For those who want math:
1. 55% MPen %, 20 MReduction, 20 MPen
2. 55% MPen %, 40 MPen
Target: 100 MR
1. (100 - 20)*.45 - 20 = 16 MR
2. 100*.45 - 40 = 5 MR
Or just do 3. 55% MPen, 20 MReduction, 40 MPen
3. (100 - 20)*.45 - 20 = 0 MR
I've been playing Kennen for a while now, read many guides, seen videos etc and I usually play a AP build with him but have been testing AP build + Malady. AP build is the same general build everyone speaks of (Guise, Rylais, Sorc Boots, Void/Abyss Scepter, Zhonyas). I go Guise, Boots(According to lane enemies at first, mid game I switch to Sorc Boots or ASPD Boots) Rylais or Malady (Eventually both), Leviathan and Abyss Staff(70AP + MR + MReduction). The order varies a lot though.. regularly I get 2-3 kills before getting Rylais or Malady and end up being very either feared or massively focused so, here comes Leviathan.. With this build I manage to farm very easy and get tons of cash while laning, I do decent DPS, massive nukes and I can do decent damage to towers(Buildings..). It has even come to times when team needs to defend and since Kenny can run so fast, I go Rush to enemy base to finish up a Tower/Inh on my own and what was a losing scenario shifts to a win. I very rarely get to buy a Zhonyas... the price just scares me. Even though it is a massive AP source, it takes time to build... within all that time with the items I used, I do faster damage... perhaps (if I get greedy) I get a chance to buy one late game but never have felt the "wowness" of it. Ive found Kenny to have a better role using a versatile combination with AP and MReduction items... As for Skills, I go Q,W,E till level 3, max Q, Max W, and finally E (giving points in R whenever I can of course..). The Shuriken is in many, MANY, times underestimated. It deals a huge amount of damage and it is spammable since its fast CD. Anyways, everything read here has been pretty useful. Kenny FTW!
I applaud the effort your put into the guide, and it is highly informative, however I highly disagree going with an AP build for Kennen. He simply has too many things going against that build. The AP ratios on ALL of his skills are horrible. Most of his abilities put him in melee range. He is extremely squishy. I understand the reasoning behind you picking Flash and Rally, but not having cleanse is just asking to be killed in every team fight.
You say that going AS is neglecting many aspects of Kennen, but honestly I can say the same thing about an AP build. An AS build still allows you to fulfill AoE stunning, but it also allows you to excel at locking down runners / chasers.
I personally like to build into CDR and AS, usually a Nashor's, Starks, Wits/Divine (depending on team comps). As far as his AP goes, I'll always pick up a Rylai for the HP and slow.
Bottom line, It really boils down to personal preference. AP Kennen is more "balls to the wall" as you say. I simply feel that even with an AP build Kennen's balls still fall a few feet short of the mark. I favor AS for the utility, survivability, and flexibility. Great job though.
I am currently 58-57 as Kennen overall and it's almost split down the middle half played as AS half as AP.
Here's my 2c.
Attack speed: Great early game harass, don't have to worry about creeps getting in the way of your Q because W is your main harass. Mid game is kinda weak and should be focused on building up your items for late game. Late game can be fun and a lot easier as AS/AD than as AP.
Ability Power: Good early game, Harder to harass with Q against good creep line of site. Mid game is a little stronger than an AS/AD build but late game becomes weak. it's hard to get kills late game in an evenly matched game.
just my experience.
