Why build him crit chance? Big whoop his passive gives him crit chance the lower his health is and bloodlust increases his critical strike damage and Spinning Slash's cooldown is reduced by 2 every time he crits. Wouldn't it be more cost effective to go for some small crit chance and attack damage, and armor penetration?

Fail. Everyone builds him for damage and crit chance. No other build is as good.

I thought people just plain went pure crit chance. What if people removed the crit chance factor. Will it still be good?

No, critical chance is the core of Tryndamere's mechanics. He only stacks bloodlust by criting or killing, and in a team fight, that means you need crits. Bloodlust will give you damage as it stacks (good) and even more damage on crits, and when you crit all the time, this is very good. Bloodlust also allows you to heal yourself significantly while laning, which is also good. Crits also reduce the cooldown of your chase-down / escape ability, and the more you have that, the better off you are.

Here's the point: stacking crit is what you need to do first, then get the rest of what you want later in the game.
