Most people who play DPS or carries or variations thereof will eventually carry thmeselves to Elos where their builds simply do not function.

As a DPS or Carry such as...

Twitch
Trist
Ashe
Teemo
Pantheon
Corki
Shaco

You need to be hitting HARD. Not FAST.

Teamfights do not last very long due to ability spam and AoE insanity. As a DPS the few hits you will get in MUST count.

Ashe for example.

Malady, Zeal, Last Whisper etc have no place on Ashe until you hit hard enough to make that attack speed useful.

If you like to spam volley frequently, grab a philostone/chalice/haunting guise(my favorite), boots and then BF sword(or pickaxe if it's a hard game). Or skip boots.
Then finish off IE.

THEN get some kind of attack damage supprt like Last Whisper.

You are failing at your DPS and carrying jobs by rushing stupid **** like malady or zeal or FFS wit's end??

Your job is normally going to be to hang back and spam ridiculously high man damage, not ridiculously fast girl slaps.

You need to be an asset to the team not the ass end of the team.

Agreed, recently learnt this lesson the hard way.

+1 Haunting Guise for Ashe.

Order of Build, Starting item (Dorans or stuff for Haunting Guise), Boots, B F Sword, Upgrade Boots or go straight for IE.

its not always true
look at jax, he is the same type of champ but u should get a lot of attack speed because of his ult which activates every 3rd attack.
attacking fast is always somethin usefull but u need balance between dmg and speed

Of course it depends on the champ but as a rule of thumb Dmg > Speed.

It also applies to those such as Twitch who are generally targetted as soon as they appear. What good is having Awesome Att Speed if you get shut down after 3 hits?

Doing 200 damage every second is almost the same as 100 damage every 0.5 seconds.

You have 50% chance to do 100 damage more if you get killed before the target dies. Otoh it is much easier to chase enemies because less time spent swinging means more time spent running, so attack speed is better for gankers.

Twitch gets poison stacks per hit so obviously he should build for attack speed.

Some attack speed, but not much. 2 of his abilities give Att Speed, once your Base Att Speed is at 1.58 your abilities will push you to the cap of 2.5 at lv18.

There's a cap?

That's so unintuitive and makes some skills useless.

Yeah Att Speed is capped at 2.5 Attacks/Second.
