This is going to be complex replying to you may QQers, but here it goes...

Warwick is squishy for the exact reason Fiddlesticks is...innate survivability
Which leads me to my next answer. What do you build a character with multiple abilities focused around taking on one specific enemy that also keep you alive? You scale those abilities with your items!

Now, what keeps Warwick alive?
That is right! His passive which gives lifesteal based on consecutive attacks to the same target! Now, why is that important you ask? Because most melee fighters cry for some lifesteal when they go tunnel vision on that one bruiser or nuisance that pokes from behind their team. Here is the hard part now, what would make Warwick viable in teamfights as a melee lifestealer? Oh my flipping josh, atk speed and atk dmg.

But darkjak, you say, why would you build warwick atk speed...he has an ability that already dramatically increases that? Who honestly throws more then one point in that ability early on? And his Hunter's Call we are referring to does not last long enough to finish off any opponent you are chasing down(unless you have a good MG carry). Unless you are picking up a green buff or green elixir for every gank, you pretty much are not being a true dps werewolf.

Defensive items are absolutely necessary...
But when? Probably your 5th or 6th item depending on the enemy team. They are not going to be outdoing your damage output to health regen combination unless they are a good udyr / nocturne who out jungle you.

Offensive items?
Completely necessary! Attack damage 1st since you are going to be just poking with a hungering strike and autoattack moreso then landing a series of attacks in lane. but you also have to consider that you will be jungling primarily for your party once you can do it in a quick and painless manner in order to return to lanes for harassment and allied shoppers. What is the safest way to jungle as a lone wolf with no internal escape mechanism?

Wriggle's Lantern + Boots = Viable Early Game.
You are going to jungle, and you want those buffs as soon as possible without wasting money on health potions and wards. How does one do this...Wriggle's Lantern, the cheapest legendary item in-game by 1.5 G's (in before nerfs, I do not care really). WL's gives you more then enough lifesteal to jungle dragon at 5 (4 if runed properly and safe), gives you infinite one ward, and free 1/5 critting neutral creeps. Always get standard boots first before even starting WL. You want to be able to harass well enough without endangering our yourself. Obviously you will be putting points in Hungering Strike. This will cost you mana which is why you buy one or two mana potions (depending on your lanemate's synergy).

MP Boots / Greaves + Wit's end = Viable Mid Game.
You have all these buffs and gold to make a werewolf go mad with hunger. Go ahead and give him something to hunt with. Berserker greaves will be excellent if you are dealing with a bruiser type team, otherwise get Magic Penetration boots to hammer those defenseless squishies. Swiftness is unnecessary with a couple points in your Blood Scent. Merc threads are not viable because of one item you will be getting. Wit's end! This not only gives you that MR Merc's give you, but IT STEALS MANA. Warwick loves eating health as well as mana.

Watch your enemy's utility and grip crumble as you charge their carry. DO NOT leap in with infinite duress like a "free-week warwick", you have to save that $#!+ for disabling someone in ult or catching an enemy before they stray too far. This is usually when you are also getting low on health and they will pull out the CC. Now you should have dragon three times by the time you finish wit's end unless you are farming your allies' lane =(

Here is where many people branch off into their own sophomoric builds that could lose a close game. Never get a defensive item next, because you are still to low on atk damage which is detrimental for pushing those lanes after ganks. Get yourself a Big Effing Sword Tool! This will make your opponents cry in pain as you start putting points into Hunter's Call. And this sets you up for your most devastating item (PLEASE DO NOT GET BLOODTHIRSTER...Lifesteal again?!?)

Black Cleaver + Malady + Thornmail / Banshee's Veil= Viable late game.
Black Cleaver will make you hit those opponents like a tank now that they are starting to get smart and build armor. This is where armor penetration, pen boots, and malady come in. Not only do they haste the slash and hack of your cleaver, but they hit your opponents where it hurts...on defensive items! Fill free to build your banshees veil before malady or even finishing off Black Cleaver if you are getting bursted down in ganks. Get Thornmail though if you are mostly being bounced around a bruiser team, no one likes harry, spikey balls thrown in their face covered in blood!

Finally replace your precious Wriggle's Lantern.
"Oh please no!" you might say. But W.L. has lost it's use when you are finishing up your game and not gathering many buffs or neutral camps. Replace it will this bad boy! BLOODTHIRSTER! It scales late game to keep you from losing viability as a hard hitter. And what werewolf would be complete without a dual wield of B.F. Sword upgrades. Blood all over your claws, why not clean up this game with the sword that sucks the wound it slices at? Please do not buy this item over Force of Nature if their team is nuking you to hell.

(depending on your lanemate's synergy).

Stopped reading there. Lane WW is a bad WW.

Sounds like this build costs a lot of ward money

Any build should consist of a lot of wards. I'm an avid believer of the "wards win games" mantra.

Just poking in here and there.

I dont think WW needs a buff or nerf. I hate him so much and cry often when fighting against him, but in fairness he's really fine. And i do believe mercury treads are viable if not zerkers. good post.

Checked the OP's match history. He neglected to mention that he was talking about Twisted Treeline, not Summoner's Rift, which makes this a lot more palatable.
