I'm wondering about the difference between the mana regen and mana boost runes. If theres anyone that can clarify which rune would be best for whichever type of hero/ situation please say so.

I'm assuming..... mana boost? raises your mana pool, while mana regen increasing how fast you gain mana lmfao - -;

mana regen is better, as champions mana pools raise fairly quickly with levels, and its easier to buy mana, than mana regen. (many mana regen items kind of suck)

Mana regen runes are good for any champ that could benefit from being able to use their skills more freely thoughout the game. Excluding the manaless and energy champions (because they're obvious), there are a few champs that don't really need much mana or regen to do their jobs. Example: Warwick and Amumu don't really need mana regen since they tend to have enough mana mid-late game just working with their base pool, plus maybe a catalyst/banshee's. Most casters and some spam-heavy carries can benefit greatly from them. Generally speaking, these runes are useful to anyone with a mana bar.

Mana boosting runes tend to be very situational. A couple of junglers use mana runes to help them get a smoother clear. Ryze loves mana runes for obvious reasons. In general, you won't use these though.

Flat mana is useful if you have a hero who gets manamune or archangels. This includes most casters and characters like Urgot/Sivir, who need mana and attack damage.

Mana regen is perfect for people who do not use much mana but don't build items that give mana (or at least don't build them until mid game). Olaf, for example, needs a little mana to harass and last hit with his axe. Mana regen runes are really useful for this. Late game, though, he has enough mana, particularly if he gets banshees.

Flat mana runes are pretty useless imo though (except maybe for Ryze). If you want flat mana, grab the knowledge mastery for 5% more. If you want mana regen, then get runes.
