His ult was just destiny without the gate. Gate was an ability with a reasonably low cooldown, so you could port from level 1 and basically attack all three lanes at once.

What didn't?

His only downside was being squishy.

Which was compensated for by being uncatchable, and even if you did catch him he had an AoE stun, while bursting you for Veigar-level damage, while teleporting all over the map since it wasn't his ultimate but his E, and his R revealed everyone and applied a massive slow.

AoE gold cards, teleport wasn't his ult, his ult gave global vision PLUS a global slow.

He had an AoE stun, and his old E let him teleport anywhere on the map, making it possible for him to gank champions while they were heading to their lane, often leading to a kill if they were afk or unprepared for the gank.
