Funny cause hoplon is a greek word and it doesn't matter because they are both the same thing. You are thinking of a parma but a parma is flat and that shield is not. The helmet is iconic ancient so w/e but the Roman spears most commonly used either had an extremely long tip (pilum) or double edged (hasta)

The funny thing is hes not even close to being right, The only time I could see armor like that even passing in a roman formation is in early republic times when soldiers had to buy their own gear but even then the gear was standardized enough even the lowliest roman soldiers, the Hastasi, only used short swords and two pilas. Even spearmen formations of Triarii weren't that unarmored.
