Quick question about the thornmail mechanics. Does it return damage based on the amount of damage I take or the amount of damage done pre-armor/MR?

Basically, if I am playing against a Yi and he is hitting for 750 damage (pre armor), but he only hits for 200 on me because of armor, do I do damage based on the 750 (so 150 dmg returned) or 200 (40 dmg returned)?

You return 150 in that case. Or so the veteran Rammus players say, not tested it myself.

Based on this, you should return 20% of 750, so 150. My experience says that's about right. If that's exact, well, someone who's acurately tested it will have to post.

Objection!

Thornmail returns 25% damage now, instead of 20%. This means if you are playing against a Yi and he is hitting for 750 damage (pre-armor), you return 162.5 damage.

But thanks for the feedback guys. Now I know why Rammus kicks so much ass.

Keep in mind, however, that the returned damage is magical, so it will be reduced by at least 23% (for those with 30 magic resist) before the target takes any damage from it.

Why are there always double and triple threads on the same topic?

Quote:
Assume base MR = 30, for starters =P

DPS attacks with base 270
Tank takes w/e
DPS takes 51 (270 * .25 * 100/130)

Add Negatron

DPS attacks with base 270
Tank takes w/e
DPS takes 37 (270 * .25 * 100/178)

... seriously, it sickens me how few people really look at MR ...

Smart dps will strongly consider:
#1) Merc Treads (+30)
#2) Banshee Veil (+57)
#3) 3 points in mastery for +6 MR

For starters, it keeps me from 3-shotting you on Karthus.

.... btw, yi and katarina and a few other folks have kinda high MR (ie 50ish by level 18 base) ... carries you would not expect to have high MR get high MR.

I can confirm that this is a GREAT peice of equipment. If your a tank and your going up against a lot of auto attackers GET THORNMAIL. Totally game changing when combined with a RoA, Sunfire cloak, Banshee's, ect... in fact, the more armor and health you stack with a thornmail the better... best part is, they often don't even see it coming until AFTER they autoattack themselves to death.
