I did this mostly for my own benefit after failing to find such a list on the forum, although I'm sure people have discussed this before. This is just a quick list of how much AP you get for the amount of gold you spend on any given AP item.

Amplifying Tome gives 20 AP for 435 Gold, or 1 AP for 21.75 Gold.

Blasting Wand is 40 AP for 860 Gold, so 1 AP for 21.5 Gold.

Doran's Ring gives 10 AP for 435 G, so 1 AP for 43.5 G.

Abyssal Scepter: 1 AP for 37.85 GP

Deathfire Grasp: 1 AP for 43.5 GP

Fiendish Codex: 1 AP for 41.5 GP

Kage's Lucky Pick: 1 AP for 30.67 GP

Lich's Bane: 1 AP for 43.37 GP

Nashor's Tooth: 1 AP for 48.09 GP

Rylai's Scepter: 1 AP for 39.31 GP

Sheen: 1 AP for 50.4 GP

Trinity Force: 1 AP for 135.67 GP

Void Staff: 1 AP for 46.4 GP

Zhonya's Ring: 1 AP for 36.95 GP base, but with the passive 25% increase that's actually 1 AP for 29.56 on just the ring alone. Add in other AP items and the ratio gets even better.

Guinsoo's Rageblade: 1 AP for 49.6 GP basic, 1 AP for 24.0 GP if you happen to hit fast enough to have maxed out the 8 stack of 5 sec buff to AS and AP.

Rod of Ages: 1 AP for 60.7 GP to start with, after 30 minutes of purchase ratio becomes 1 AP for 37.9 GP

Archangel's Staff: This is a pain in the ass to try to calculate... basic ratio is 1 AP for 64.2 GP if you for some reason have no mana whatsoever. If your max mana is 2000 or so, your ratio becomes 1 AP for 34 GP, give or take.

Mejai's Soulstealer: 1 AP for 61.75 GP to start with. Ratio becomes 1 AP for 17.64 GP at 5 stacks, 1 AP for 10.29 GP at 10 stacks, and 1 AP for 5.61 GP at the maximum 20 stacks.

You left out brilliance elixir? I get it quite a lot midgame. Endgame too...

31-65 AP for 4 minutes for 300g (29 + 2*level) ... is insanely good when you're able to use it to score kills / make a bigger impact on team fights, etc.

So Soulstealer is more cost-efficient than amp tome or blasting wand at only 5 stacks? Maybe I should try using it again.
