I'm getting back from deployment tomorrow and I've been inactive for about 8 months or so and I'll be building a new computer. I was wondering what people were running and if any of you stream or fraps at high resolution and what your frame rates might be. I have a new 23.5 inch 1080p HD monitor already so I just need to build a tower.... I'm willing to spend around $1500 or so and I'd like peoples input.

Inform me.

On a Sager NP8760
I7-720QM
ATI Mobility HD5870
4GB RAM
1920x1080 Resolution

I limit how many frames I get to 60FPS in almost all games, especially LoL.

The biggest requirement for streaming is a stable and decent throughput connection.

You want to have at least 500 kbps (~62 kiloBYTES per second) upload.

Also, if you want to encode & compress your videos as you stream it (to allow a very high quality stream while reducing net stress, you'll need 2 video cards.)

The better question is do you expect to be redeployed soon, or is this your last tour?
(Also, do you want to buy a cheaper computer that will last 3 years, and plan to upgrade as the computer ages, or buy a new computer in 3 years, or super-proof your computer for 3-5 years?) [Usually to achieve the latter while maintaining performance in stressing games in the future will require an investment of ~$2000+]

Expect to pay around
200-250 for the cpu
400-500 for the 2x gpu
100-300 for 6-10GB of memory
100-300 for HDD (either 1 large drive, or a small SDD or 2x 10k drives in Raid 0 + storage)

I highly recommend Coolermaster HAF932 for your case. It simply has the most amazing form factor and ease of installation I've seen in any full-size tower, ever.

Make sure your powersupply is sufficient for your setup. This Power Supply Calculator is alright.

Also make sure you have enough Amps on each rail for your video card(s) [they're pretty demanding.]
