So, it seems like health runes are just a terrible value. For example, if you're the type champion that needs mana regen, this is the stat breakdown for HP runes vs mana regen runes:

Based off Meki Pendant and Ruby Crystal:

Meki Pendant
55 gold per MP5.
9 Clarity Seals Final Value = 825 Gold worth of MP5.
At level 3 9 Clarity Seals = 148 Gold worth of MP5.

Ruby Crystal
2.37 Gold Per HP.
9 Fortitude Seals = 138 Gold worth of HP.

So at level 3, you're getting as much gold worth of stats out of the clarities.

Wouldn't it then be better, to get MP5 runes, and just start the game with a ruby crystal, as opposed to getting HP runes, and starting the game with a meki pendant?

Health quints are for dragoning and defending against others during level 1 skirmishes. It's true that their efficacy is not as great as other runes but the idea is that you get a significant boost at the beginning of the game to help your late game.

True, health runes do give you a significant level 1 advantage for team fights. But that's fairly situational. In a lane they are not particularly important in most matchups.

o.O

1. flat hp quints are still very good. they are for the whole game. but they are especially strong at start.

2. flat hp seals do suck.

3. your calculations on clarity glyph need to be halved or divided by 4 (approximately).
-it's a per level thing
-mp regen is not as important late game because max mp is better in ganks
-snowball effects where good stats early on results in better results late game.
-meki pendant is expensive in terms of pure mp/5sec. it's bought beceause the items that build from it give a better deal.

Don't know how good they are after nerfs, but last patch HP runes were ridiculous. HP beats all early game, and a strong early game snowballs into a strong late game.

Its true. Currently, stacking HP runes, buying an +HP item, and playing a high hp hero allows you to be very agressive during level 1 fights. Its not all to uncommon to pick up first blood if you have a heal and/or flash handy. If you get first blood and think you can snowball the rest of the game, leviathan is a cheap upgrade and it will allow you to continue to dominate the early game. Late game, for cost, its an obscene item.

I use yellows as hp/level, blues as cooldown reduction and reds as something offensive (ArP, MrP, Crit, Crit dmg, AP, etc)

The hp/level is rather nice 20hp at level 18 x 9 = 180 bonus hp? Yellows don't give much else.
