For melee champions especially, if something is moving away from the champion, less autoattacks will get in per contact with the target.
Melee may then benefit from a 'martial arts' range, where they get a micro-gapcloser per autoattack within a certain range.
This may potentially scale on attack speed, or movement speed.

IMO Melee attack range should just be higher.
Things like Irelia's E, Kha's Q, and many more are actually quite a bit longer than autoattack range.
And this is why people buy phage
support & bump its gay trying to keep up with a melee champ
wrong wrong and wrong
attack speed increases your auto attack animation speed, it makes orb walking way better. Attack move attack move attack move is way more effective with higher attack speed.
