I started playing Kayle this week, and I'm still fairly new to the game.

I've noticed that it seems very difficult to get the ball rolling with her. I've been focusing on building AP and AS, as I like the idea of on-hit effects, but it takes quite a lot of gold to get your AS and AP up enough to the point that it feels like I have a cohesive build, even in its simplest form.

I did some research and apparently she's been hit very hard with some (argued by some) overly extensive nerfs to her early game, which is what I've been experiencing. That first 3k or so gold is outlandishly difficult to come by, especially if you're laning with a partner top, or, heaven forbid, supporting.

By the time I actually finish my first final item, it seems like the game is already over. A lot of guides on Kayle are very old at this point, so I'm curious as to how she's typically built and played early, as that seems to be her weakest and most frustrating point.

Kayle is now meant to be a solo mid
You should have at least 130 minions farmed by the 20 minute mark
And then you are set to carry mid/late game
Don't expect to support kayle and do crazy damage
As support, you are there to do slow, heal, ult
basically utility like all other supports

Kayle isn't meant to be a solo mid, its just she can play solo mid and play it really well. I would start by leveling E first, then Q. After that, max Q first, then max W first. Maxing E doesn't help your damage that much, maxing Q is for the burst, and maxing the heal really helps a lot with the movement speed.

First item build should be Nashor's Tooth. The AP/AS/CDR all help Kayle and the item is very cost efficient. After Nashor's, you can decide whether you want to build Deathcap or Liandry's first. If you're really ahead, I like Deathcap a lot more. You can also go with Haunting Guise if the enemy is building a little MR. But Kayle is about harassing with Q -> E.

A build can be something like Nashor's, Deathcap, Liandry's, Rylai's, Sorc Boots. Or you can also go something like Nashor's, Rageblade, Liandry's, Blade of the Ruined King. Kayle can be played in many ways. But I really recommend maxing R > Q > W > E. And focus on building max cooldown reduction.

Kayle is probably one of the strongest champions pre-level 6. Just wanted to get that out there before I get into anything.

So, AP Kayle is very strong late game. Early on I'm pretty sure you know the drill of what to buy: boots (sorrcers boots, that is), Nashor's tooth, and Haunting Guise/Liandry's torment. If you didn't know that then...you should....its kind of important. You'll usually pick that up relatively easy seeing as how you'll probably be mid if your going ap. Those are her core Ap items. Then you can go with Rabadon's Deathcap, Void staff, and really any of the obvious Ap carry items. If you cs well and don't die a **** ton you should at least get your core items. BUT I can see where your problem is, and its a very understandable one: the late game items. For both Ap and hybrid her late game items are really expensive compared to Ad Kayle's items. Just make sure you can get your core items and try to get at least one "later" item: you should be ok.

I saw you mentioned how hard it is to get gold for AP and Hybrid items if your supporting. Kayle can support, but its better she doesn't as there are many better choices for the support role. IF you HAVE TO support just build tanky.

By AS I'm going to assume you mean hybrid or on-hit AD. Pretty much same thing here: expensive late game items and little core items. For hybrid your core is pretty much Boots (whatever you want), Guinsoo's Rageblade, and Wit's end/Nashor's tooth.

I play a ton of Kayle so feel free to ask me any questions.

p.s. AD Kayle is really good too: so try it too.
