Riot, having you considered providing a new pure Crit item for ADCs?

As of the 3.03 patch, Blade of the Ruined King has now become an AS item. Along with Zephyr and Sword of the Divine, this makes 3 items that ADCs can use for AS that don't have Crit, yet there are no efficient ways of building Crit without AS except for the 'main' item of Infinity Edge.

Can we have another Crit item build path? If you wanted to build IE->Zephyr/BotRK, there's no good way to build more Crit except with a Phantom Dancer or Statikk Shiv, and with those items you're really overloading on AS. There's Atma's Impaler, and Executioner's Calling, but those are ~2000g items that don't build into anything else. It seems to me like those two items are in the same position as Haunting Guise was in last season. And just like Haunting Guise, I think a new Legendary Crit item should be created that build from Executioner's Calling, because it's a cheap dead end item that rarely gets built, especially now that Morellonomicon also provides the heal debuff.

TL;DR: There are great options for building AS without Crit, but only bad options for building Crit without AS. Executioner's Calling and maybe Atma's Impaler should build into new 3000g+ 'true' Legendary items to provide more options for ADCs to build Crit without AS.

There is not really a point in building Crit without AS, as far as I see it.

Atmas impaler is great as it is now. Not an item for an adc though. Executioners calling should be given something more though. Same with static Shiv. Such useless items.

As a jungle Yi I'd like to see another big all-offense Crit item without Attack Speed tacked on.

Early and mid game its not really a problem, but end-game its frustrating to be unable to buy more Crit Chance without wasting AS by exceeding the limit or getting another IE.

As part of a spitballing session about Sheen/Phage (well, Iceborn Gauntlet/Frozen Mallet), this was created as a "new" Trinity Force:

Trinity Force

  • Executioner's Calling (1900g) + Zeal (1175g) + 300g = 3375g (three swords)
  • 35% critical strike chance, 25 attack damage, 25% attack speed, 8% movement speed (value: 4033g)
  • UNIQUE Passive - Spellblade: After using an ability, your next basic attack is guaranteed to critically strike for 146 + (3 * level) % critical damage (standard critical strikes are 200%). Bonus critical damage from items, runes and masteries is applied for the full amount.
  • UNIQUE Passive - Incinerate: Dealing non-periodic physical damage will inflict Grievous Wound and burn your target for 50 true damage over 2 seconds. Your target will take double damage from this effect if you critically strike.
  • Note this will not apply to abilities that apply on-hit effects if they cannot critically strike.

Yes, it has attack speed, but it's critical strike heavy instead of attack speed heavy. It's two passives are also critical-strike orientated.

(The general premise of the session was that there is little you can do to Trinity Force to make it viable compared to Iceborn Gauntlet short of making Trinity Force overpowered or Iceborn Gauntlet ****).

Trinity works on 2 ADCs at the most, and it only has 10% crit since its super high cost is mostly spent other stats including AS. Youmuu's is targeted at melee champs, and lot of the gold cost is tied up in the AS active.

It would be nice if there were more critical strike options, I've found it's pretty hard to itemize for critical strikes without going the IE + PD route.

Trinity Force is good on anyone reliant on auto-attacks, and as a 3rd or 4th item it isn't bad on most ADCs, though maybe not optimal. It's really solid on Gangplank and Vayne in addition to Ezreal and Corki though, considering GP and Vayne can apply the Tri-Force proc on one of their relativly spamable abilities. I've found getting Tri Force over another phantom dancer is a lot funner on Vayne anyways, especially after Tri Force was changed to grant more movement speed than Phantom Dancer - which was a while ago.

As for Youmuu's - the active is the free part of the item, which can be less useful than other free goodies for completing an item (like IE crit damage). The active only grants 40% AS for 4 to 6 seconds now though, so it's not a huge factor in the item. All things considered, you really should be able to get as much use from the active as a ranged champ as a melee champ can get now as well.

Crit without attack speed or ad to actually benefit from said crit is not really an effective use of stats.
