Why are champs forced to sit at fountain for 1:30 at the beginning?

There is no gameplay reason for it to be that long, is there? It's not like you can use that time to set up invade or counter-invade or wards like in SR.

i think its because the roles are a little less defined then in SR. Potentialy just about anyone can go bot, depending on who the other person is sending bot.

so it could give u time to pick a counter to their possible bottum, then give everyone time to pick items. Which would be important especialy for someone who wasnt going to go bot at toon select but then saw someone they could beat bot. Gives you time to change your bot and for everyone to think about gear. First bought item when going bot can be an intersting choice if your trying to counter a specific person.

There is a mechanical reason; level timing. Notice the passive XP ticks even while the nexus barrier is up. The 1:30 ensures that by the time your Windmill and Bot teams meet up you'll trip your Level 4.

They could probably reduce by bumping up the starting XP that but personally I think that full time is needed for tactical discussion (in higher ELOs) and for figuring out who's stuck with bottom lane (in lower ELOs).

Gives time for those final "Who's bot?" chicken games.

Also lets you charge Panth W, some Tear of the Goddess on spammers, etc.

And lets people who are alt tabbed to go pee while the game is loading.

It's because dominion is time-critical. It gives everybody fair chance at winning and come back to the table if they were afk until game loaded. In SR, it's not like you have something to do anyways until minions spawn. So, there you have minions spawn time, here you have time of sitting in the base. Same thing.

It's so people can decide which items to buy or come back in time from taking a number 1 or 2.

It's Riot's way of setting up the CV "who goes bot lane" mind game meta.

In practical terms, it's because a person being late 20 seconds into the game automatically loses the windmill fight for his team.

A few reasons I can think of:
1. Allows time for people that had their client bugged to reconnect.
2. Allows time to analyze their team and develop a counterplay.
3. Allows time to get appropriate items.
4. Allows time to finalize bot, mid, and top.
5 (the biggest one). Allows time for idle chit-chat with all the fun people on your team or the other team about their skins.
