Hey I'm an okay Dota/HoN player (1700 psr) and my dota-virgin friends have been telling me to start playing LoL.

I think I have the basics and mechanics down (last hitting/mana consumption/positioning) from past Dota experience, but I have no idea what the competitive tier in LoL is.

For example, in dota the competitive heroes are: Storm Spirit/Doombringer/Morphling etc. Heroes who are regularly banned and generally seen as a little too powerful.

And in dota the competitive items are Manta style and Powertreads.

So who are the competitive heroes and what are the generic good item builds for them?

Hiemerdinger stacking BF swords is currently very popular. But I don't think it will last long.

3x Phantom Dance Anivia is on the rise as well.

Follow Elementz's tier list like everyone else if you don't want to play a champ for the awesome kit/fun-factor they have...

As for builds, Leaguecraft has a ton, and you can even make your theoretical one with runes and masteries factored in.

Although the champions are all fairly balanced, Evelynn is probably your best bet though she can take some skill. For items, go straight for Zhonyas Ring along with Sorcerers Boots.

Morg/Amumu/Twitch/Ashe/Galio/Sona/Shen/MF/Kog/Garen

All I have off the top of my head, but around 30ish of the champions are completely viable in top play.

If you didn't realize, this is a troll.

Mercury Treads are generally a good buy on any champ.

Well, the champs that get banned the most are:

Garen (He's super tanky and has some insane damage, even if only building armor)
Morgana (A snare, a root, a DoT, and an amazing skill-blocking support spell)
Amumu (He has a massive aoe stun that is an amazing initiator)
Kogmaw (He has some insane DPS. If you build him a bloodrazor, he can kill tanks in a matter of seconds)

Those are the main ones. There's a couple others, but not banend as often.
