Running a champion like cait mid isn't exactly a new idea and works well if the rest of your team can adapt to non-meta team comps. She is surprisingly strong early for a ranged ADC, and can really pressure mid with less risk due to her decent escapes (ie net/flash through wall in bush), strong pokes, and traps for zoning and map awareness.

Running ranged ad mid just isn't what the cool kids do these days. Its all about running the latest pro teams strategy at the exclusion of all others. The reality for most solo que ranked teams is they would likely do just as well or better working with everyone's preferred/best champion as they would forcing artificial roles intended for executing a specific strategy by pros who play endless games together with voice chat...but hey, what do I know. My elo is low.

Good luck finding 4 randoms that don't rage at the suggestion of this in que. Seems so few are open-minded these days like the days of old.

Her harass is nice, but she brings no area damage, AP, or CC to a teamfight, so your team will have to adapt around you. Couple that with the fact that her roaming is pretty derpy unless all you're doing is ulting into other lanes and you have a champ that's probably less than optimal mid lane.

It use to be adc was mid, Ashe use to be always mid right? So I do not see why it could not work now.

It works.. The problem is (as mentioned above), usually AP Carries are better at roaming, they are closer to blue buff in mid, and they are not as good at bot lane with a support.

The reason lots of pro teams like AP mid is exactly that. They utilize the blue buff, and also tend to get huge flat damage boosts per rank in their nukes. This means they excel in a single lane where their xp is higher. Once they hit 6 earlier than the duo lanes they can gank in that window before the other team hits 6 very effectively.

This is generalization though. Not all ap images work this way. The ones used by teams that employ this meta strategy do, but not all.

Learning to adapt your early lane play to what people have and are good with is much better than trying to imitate a pro strategy with less than optimal champs and players who don't really understand the roles they should be filling.

Cait is one of the strongest early game champs in all of LoL. She us also one of the weaker late game champions. You have to play fast and hard with her, establish an edge, and keep it till you win early. If you let teams hang around long enough they may overtake you late game and win.

Going solo lane with her accelerates her peak time, where she can push her lane, then roam and harrass other lanes sniping tower huggers with Q and R. If she can get some early kills and gold, she can hit like a truck with last whisper and some bf swords till very late in the game. That window can be enough if you capitalize on it. Its all about having a plan and executing it. That can be hard when 5 random people all want to do something different. Hence the meta, which tries to get people on the same page. Sometimes it works, sometimes it fails.

The truth is diviating from the meta won't really lose you more games, but poor play and a lack if teamwork and a plan will.
