It seems Riot just wants progression to be really, really, really, slow. Needing to win those special more important promotion matches will just add to how long progressing anywhere will take.

People should comfortable in their leagues. Most will probably be there for a long time.

The problem is that you can't stay in the spot you are currently in unless you have an unrealistic winning percentage, since 50/50 (what should be normal for people) makes you gradually lose points.

wait wait wait so the system is aware that you should win/lose matches. That seems fair. Shouldn't it be equal

What's the point of ranked then?

What I hope Riot has not realized is that a large portion of this community at lower ELOs is just plain garbage. They troll, and will invariably cause you to lose at least a few games here and there by feeding, griefing, AFKing, or disconnecting. Since everyone faces this reality, it makes it entirely possible (and in fact pretty likely) that no one at lower ELOs can progress because one loss nets you a penalty that sets you back on several wins. Combine that with the fact that people at the bottom of their divisions can throw games with no penalty, and you've got a recipe for a brilliant kind of disaster. This is a bad idea, and I won't waste time playing ranked until it's fixed. Normal games are more fun for the same reward, since there's no incentive to take them seriously.
