He's still viable because pots are OP at the start of the game. Stay in lane forever and farm farm farm, wither and run if they try to fight. By minute 15 you should be farmed enough that your Q is scary enough to win fights, especially if you have some items for defense.

nasus is quite strong if you can make it to late game. the only real trouble he has is with high sustain poke champs. garen is probably my least favorite to fight. if you want to play nasus competitively then use hyfes guide. his rune and item setup ha e helped me win numerous consecutive RANKED games. lifesteal quints help get that little extra sustain early game to help survive poke

also now with the double farm from large minion buff nasus should suffer less from harass. if. you fall behind in farm you can run into the jungle and take out some large minions. also if your good and have already been getting the siege minions the the. buff should increase q farm by about 50 by the end of the game.

What changed a couple weeks ago for him? Not seeing any patch notes for him except for the one today with the Q change. Would love to be able to play him again.

Main thing is early sustain and power changes. Champs that can harrass freely or constantly will not have as much oomph behind it now. With the move speed increase, he won't need boots right off in order to go Q a minion and leave before getting harrassed. This lets him start with more sustain with flask, pots and wards, all giving him staying power in lane.

Edit: Early defenses (all defenses obviously) were nerfed. The armor/MR masteries made tier 2. So now his opponents don't get as much hitting power or defense against him early on.

Iceborne Gauntlet was a good addition for him. Glacial and Sheen are and were core on him. Now he can combine them. Hydra is a good addition if you can build it later on in the game, it just adds to his scariness, assuming you got there.

Spirit Visage changes were 100% good for Nasus.

One big thing that gets ignored is the minion damage reduction masteries being changed. These masteries let opposing players freeze the lane by tanking the damage with minimal repercussions, if any at all. Since they've been removed There's more of a consequence in order to freeze a lane by face tanking minion waves.

And of course the buff in this patch granting more Q damage for large minions and monsters.

Hmm so instead of going for sheen and frozen heart now, probably better to go for iceborn? But basically lower defenses, faster, itemization changes. Lack of escape still a big problem? Darius? (I know everyone says he is sooo easy but he is a BEAST early with that pull that can snatch a lee sin mid flight lol)

Almost always is better to go for IBG. FH and TF are still good on him. TF got a price buff this patch, but to be honest I feel Nasus only built TF since he had a Sheen and LichBane isn't a real option for him. The only thing he really loses from not building TF is the move speed. The AD isn't needed since his damage comes from farmed Q, the AP helps his E and R, but IBG has AP. Crit is wasted. Mana is fine with FH, HP is always good, crit is a total waste.

Plus if you get FH and SV your CDR is at 35% which makes it hard to cap without wasting some. With Gauntlet, SV and either Shurelia's or Locket you max it out perfectly.

Also keep in mind a few other tops have been nerfed so they're not so harsh to deal with or the damage done to them sticks better, like the Riven HP regen nerf. These types of changes indirectly help Nasus.

The fact that Nasus destroys late game makes up for the fact that his early laning phase is hard, but most people just build him wrongly and don't know how to play him during the laning phase and after that.
