I have heard some people say they arent canon at all.

however.......

The Journal of Justice which was a great Lore tool mentions that Morgana really has a life outside the Fields of Justice and owns Sinful Succulence Bakery and Mordekaiser REALLY has a "Techma-Tune" band called Pentakill (rival with other bands like The Hexbenders, Yordle Mothership, and Tainted Nexus). Evelyn and Twisted fate are mentioned to have a Tango Class they are teaching together as well. Corporate Mundo seems to be real as well as he and his business get a mention.

This seems to say that at least SOME alternate skins are totally as legit as the classic ones.

Anything featured in the JoJ is considered canon. There aren't many, but they do exist.

But most of them are still non-canon. As much as people will try to justify Pulsefire Ezreal or Bunnygirl Riven fitting into the lore somehow, they aren't canon. :P

If Journal of Justice had continued, maybe Bunnygirl Riven could have came up eventually. Who knows? Maybe she moonlights as a entertainer....

Professor Ryze is somewhat believable.

Indeed, some skins are canon, but only a few of them. Explorer Ezreal, for example, is canon.

A few skins are cannon, but they aren't created with cannon in mind and unless specifically mentioned it's generally believed they aren't.

Also, some skins have "mini-backgrounds" but aren't related to the original lore at all. Like Bioforge vs. Steel Legion and stuff.

Tyrant Swain is cannon.

Some are, some aren't. Imagine trying to force Katarina to wear a kitty cat costume.

Bunny girl Riven falls directly into the release of Darius because she's attacking both Swain and Darius in a night club in her splash page. soon after her skin came out the new Swain skin came and Darius was revealed. And nearly every skin is canon, all the champions dress up for holidays, or their costumes are the day jobs they do. alternate reality skins are the noxian variants of Demacians, like poppy.

I never understood Explorer Ezreal. He's already the Prodigal Explorer. What are we going to have next? Fallen Morgana, Bounty Hunter Miss Fortune, Sheriff Caitlyn?
