Jax is one of the best examples of a hybrid currently, utilizing every stat to it's fullest, Rageblade is not wasted, Atma's is not wasted, any item with stats is not wasted.

About the only time you could go wrong when building Jax is simply just stacking tonnes and tonnes of resistances, but even then he uses it (to an extent), I don't play Akali however she doesn't have Jax's passive so I can't really see an Atma's on her (though you could), and besides these two you have characters who can be played as a hybrid but ultimately, usually are not true hybrid champions.

Such as:

Ezreal.
Gragas.
Blitzcrank.
Twisted Fate.

I prefer Jax because he feels the most comfortable fulfilling a hybrid role consistently when compared to others.

tl;dr: I would like to see some new champions strongly oriented toward being hybrids.

This is actually his main problem... that he needs every stat except maybe cdr to be succesful.

No.

Can we make the 20+ obsolete champs somewhat viable first?

I don't often play melee carries.

But when I do...

I prefer Jax.

Riot does that whilst making new champions.

the reason you dont see many good hybrids is because they are hard to actually make and be viable. All of the champs that were designed to be hybrid, are played on one extreme or the other because it's more efficient and better most of the time(e.g. Kassadin, Poppy, Teemo). It's better to put all of your eggs in one basket most of the time.

Had Poppy and Jax in the same team.
Team combat turn from 5 vs 5 into 5 vs 3 instantly.
I love it.
