@Riot: Why does the new league system hide our Elo/MMR from us?

I don't understand the logic behind this.

Do you feel that we, as players, can't handle knowing how your matchmaking system works?

Under the new system we can only guess at our Elo/MMR indirectly from our "League points". Why do you want to hide information from your players?

Its so people dont grind to reach a number that is realistically unobtainable. if you played SC2 for any period of time you would realize that the leagues you are placed in are reasonably accurate in their portrayal of your skill. its mainly so people wont say "LF JUNGLER 2k plusssss" and not except tryouts for anyone else because the number means something to them for some reason.

Elo is already separated into brackets, so I don't see how this system improves anything. People will still say "LF JUNGLER PLAT/DIAMOND ONLY PLZ".

All it does is hide your actual Elo behind the 'league rating' which is totally pointless.

Because you don't NEED to know your elo. All it does is cause problems when people get super focused on it.

People will just stress out over their league rating instead.

All this system does is cover one ranking system with another, illusionary, one that doesn't actually influence matchmaking or anything that actually matters.

People who can't handle exposing their elo belong in normal queues, not ranked.

It's because the granularity of the numbers doesn't really mean that much. Someone 30 Elo below you doesn't exactly perform "30 Elo worse" than you. The reality is, you tend to fluctuate in rating, so at any given point there's a large pool of people roughly as skilled as you. Now we simply declare that pool openly, while still relying on the very granular metrics (behind the scenes) to give you guys the best matches we can.

Getting tied up in the specific number doesn't seem to give any positives, except in the highest points of the ladder (which we've addressed).
