The elo system is still in place. Think of this new system as the same thing we have now, but when you (for example) go from 1500-1600 elo, you move up a division. Matchmaking will still be based off of elo, because players in your division/tier will be of similar elos.

Is there any way to move backwards in this system at all?

Yegg, are we completely losing our rating and all we're now gonna have is just league emblems?

Will the current elo be resetting?

Nothing really changed. So "Elo hell" will still "exist".

What really happened was Riot re-explaining how the ranking system worked. Made a better display / representation to the players. And really showing that, if you're a good player, you can move up.

What happens if we already have 10 games played and are in say silver league? will we be automatically placed into what we are already in? or do we need to play 5-10 games again

You can still be matched against anyone else who's playing ranked at that time, even if they're in a different league, division, or tier. So you shouldn't have any trouble finding matches at 4 AM. In fact, given my sleep schedule recently, you'll probably have me on your team.

This. The system now shows you your progress as you continue to play the game. Nothing's really changed, but maybe now players will have more motivation to push through a threshold to advance.

When you upgrade divisions will you start with 0 league points or like 50 or something?

I imagine starting with 0 would be frustrating cause you lose one game in that division and youre demoted already and have to re-qualify
