The woman who created the new look/feel, thought up the characters and had a huge part in the episodes herself said she wanted the show to be something that was smart, funny and therefore enjoyable by people of all ages. She was tired of girls shows being seen as something stupid just because they were "only for girls"

Naturally she wanted it to be the parents of the kids watching it to enjoy it. She didn't expect the bronies but you can find a large number of interviews/videos of her expressing how delighted she is that it's reached the level that is has.

If you're gonna hate something you should at least know something, ANYTHING about it before you do.
Making blanket statements about anything in life is a terrible way to go about expressing your opinion
