The more I look at it, the more it seems like Runaan's a noob trap...

With few exceptions, for example, a utility based Urgot focused on tanking and debuffing the enemy team. Runaan's can let him weaken 3 enemies at once if he's in the thick of things, and he can also shred armour like mad with BC.

But outside of Urgot, Runaan's look like a pretty bad item. Even on Varus it seems like a pretty suicidal item. Applying blight stacks on 3 target at once sounds so great at first, but after thinking about it, that also means atleast 3 champions are CLOSE enough for you to hit all 3, and that implies atleast one of them is close enough to pound Varus into the ground.

Same with Kog'maw, being able to hit 3 targets at amazing range and applying his % damage only sounds great in theory. But in practice it means the enemy is getting dangerously close to you if you actually manage to hit 3 target.

On targets such as Twitch and Caitlyn, it's even worse than Kog and Varus above. It's a noob trap because hitting multiple targets at once is pointless when Headshot/Expunge scales off AD, which Runaan's gives none of.

The few champions where Runaan's might sound like a great idea on doesn't work with Runaan's, like AP Kayle(WHYYYY!??!)

So in conclusion....................Runaan's feel like a great in theory, impractical in practice kind of item because of how it's triple shot effect functions. Anyone feel that way?

PS - what champion would be good with Runaan's? From my analysis, the champion would need to be both ranged and tanky enough to be relatively close to the enemy team.

Utili-got seems like the only candidate.

Ashe is the only champion who can get that close and stay safe.

Headshot on Caitlyn also scales off attack speed.

It "scales" with AS.

There are far better items than Runaan's if you want AS. Like ones that increases crit %'s.

Kog has 710 range with Bioarcane barrage.

I'm not saying it is a good item, but consider what you just said. If they are close enough for him to hit them then they are too close. So when exactly is he supposed to even deal damage?

It has a few interesting interactions on the ad carries but I'll agree that outside of a few champions, you're better off just going IE + PD/Shiv, which is still the go to combo for many AD carries.

Here's basically the rule of thumb: All onhit items are unviable/noob traps on 90% of champions who aren't named Warwick, Teemo, and Irelia.
