Okay so Zed has been getting banned a lot lately on Ranked (Got a 60% ban rate according to LolKing, which is the second most banned champion), can anybody tell me a reason? Since I really love playing Zed.

He's probably the most effective assassin currently, and he's been played a lot in championship matches.

He's played in tournaments, his burst and poke is insane, he is nearly impossible to lock down on before he uses all of his abilities, even so, he can escape quite well or even use his shadow's to dodge abilities and win situations that would be impossible completely with other assassins.

Hes too strong at the moment for obvious reasons.

He brings the same kind of presence to team fights that Kassadin or Fizz does in that he can rapidly annihilate a single target extremely quickly, but he has a much, much better laning phase.

His lanning phase doesn't suck, which is unusual for assassins capable of assassinating things. Zed can lane against pretty much any type of champion and still be able to maintain distance and saftey while farming, were assassins like Kassadin or Fizz are not getting much farm if they can't win a 1v1 trade.

He has excellent mana sustain - seeing as he's manaless.
He has poke and AoE abilities - so he doesn't need to put himself in harm's way to farm. Which is further empowered by him being manaless, so those abilities are often available.
He's got the best type of escape in the game - a skill-shot gap-closer.

He's also got the best type of aggro-mitigation mechanic in the game: he becomes un-target-able while using his ultimate.

For an assassin - he's incredibly reliable. He doesn't have to worry about not getting farm, because his skills make it nearly impossible to deny him farm - and they make him slippery in lane as well concerning ganks.

During team-fights - his capacity to reach and damage his target is incredibly reliable, as he becomes un-target-able while moving towards them, dealing largely guaranteed damage (barring things like Banshee's Veil or Quicksilver Sash).

He's far from the most damaging assassin, but with how easily he can acquire gold, escape focus, flank enemies, and reach his target - he's one of the hardest assassins to deal with.

It's not that he's too strong... it's that people don't want to change their play style to deal with his ult. You either have to rush zhonya's, focus your cc on him, or buy a QSS early on to prevent him from destroying a single target (usually ADC). It's best for teams to just avoid him completely.
