Just...make different borders for solo, 5v5 teams and 3v3 teams (like different shape, etc.) and let us use the border we want, same should go for ribbons

Sounds like the only way to please everyone

1. You guys want to show off your accomplishments with your best foot forward. I hear that and it definitely weighs into the decision. Some of you also feel like we didn't give you enough warning on how the borders would work, which is a fair point. We should have locked down how they would work earlier and let you know in the original announcement.

2. I want there to be less toxicity in the game. There are reports of players using the borders as an excuse to belittle other players. The question here is: would those players have been toxic anyway and it's just taking a slightly different form? Or is it creating toxicity where there wouldn't have been any? I'll be looking over the data in the coming days to start to make that distinction.

Some people are saying that this is an example of Riot shunning competitive 5s or indicating that Ranked Teams aren't as important as the Ranked Solo queue. That's simply not the case. I'm one of the biggest advocates for Ranked Teams in the entire company. Since I've been at Riot we've seen huge increases in the popularity of Ranked Teams, and we're only just getting started. The Season 3 Path to Pro that the eSports team put together is a great example of this. Did you know that you can eventually qualify for the Season 3 Championship Series just by making it to the top 32 of the Ranked 5s ladder during the preseason? I don't think a lot of people realize yet just how big of a deal that is. This means you play League of Legends professionally, receive a salary, play in a season with weekly scheduled matches, and compete for millions of dollars.

However, as much as I like Ranked Teams, it's a fact that doing well in those queues is as much about who you know as it is about your own individual skill. And generally I'm totally okay with that. I'm fine with people showing off their Platinum and Diamond badges on the forums even if they might not have been able to achieve that in solo queue (yes, even Morello). But when it comes to the loading screen, I'm much more concerned about the accuracy of what's being portrayed, because it's natural to read a lot into it in terms of raw player skill. Is it really better for everyone if we have Diamond borders showing up next to Silver borders in normal games? I think it would be confusing ("Why am I matched with these Diamond players if I'm Silver?" or "I don't play ranked, does this mean I'm a Silver player or a Diamond player?") and I think it could cause even more elitism than we're already seeing.

Going back to the point about the borders being an experiment. Originally, they were only going to be shown in Ranked games. You all asked for them to be shown in normals as well and after much deliberation I changed it to the current incarnation. Clearly not everyone is happy with that, so I'll keep gathering data and reading what you guys have to say, and make further changes if and when they're warranted.
Honestly I dont think the borders matter that much, from a players perspective. If I see a gold boarder on my team I dont expect anymore from them than I would a borderless player. (plat or diamond would be the same, I just rarely see those in 3v3 solo q)

What I think would be cool, is if they have a ranked team, to display the name and badge of that team. That way I know, ok this dude/dudette takes 3's at least semi seriously and isnt just here to try a new champion (read:feed)

The fact that this stigma will be placed on me ALL SEASON as far as I can tell, when the seasons are so long, is very disheartening.
That's probably just the player's terrible attitude. I see plenty of silver players here in 1700+, and they usually do play at the level required in these games. It just means they improved a lot, no second thought would be given. But now if you see a diamond in 1500 or something, you'd wonder how did he get down here.

And Riot should give the user the chance to turn off/on the border.

That still doesn't explain why ranked teams is so look downed on in this aspect. Why is my solo queue rank displayed everywhere! No one told me that when I got diamond in ranked teams I wouldn't get my diamond border... EVER! Thats lame and I feel ripped off.

It doesn't matter where you earned it your highest elo should be shown no matter what. I don't care what people say about ranked 3s or 5s if you can get to diamond there you could probably get the same elo in solo queue with time.

I could not disagree more. Every time I get in games with Platinum players they mock me for having my gold border in Solo Queue.

When the guy has a diamond border in the 1500s, they still know you are a diamond level player, and don't bat an eyelash, it's a huge advantage. Your perspective is not correct.

Diamond level players are the worst about this, if you ever watch streams you would know they immediately look down on players with a less than diamond border.

I would appreciate it if the problem at hand were not ignored, I would rather have no border at all than a gold one going into solo Q. At least that way my team will think I'm smurfing.

I hope there is an update where I can choose to disable the border that labels me forever as a "Gold level" player.

True, I would have probably tried harder to get platinum in Solo Q instead of getting diamond in 3v3.

That's a mistake I plan to remedy in S3, I will not be playing as much TT even though I enjoy it, because the rewards are not treated equally to those that are given out of Solo Q. Solo Q appears to be the only game mode that Riot cares about rewarding, and I am eternally punished by a gold border for not working harder to get plat. Now platinum players do not take me seriously in my games. Frustrating.

Riot even states that Solo Q is the most accurate representation of a player's individual skill level. Yet the fact that my TT team went diamond means little to nothing to represent my skill when I am 1/3 of the entire team.
