Not fair. Pirates get outnumbered 2-4 by ninjas.

He doesnt have the damage and utility like most of the mages.
He also have great poke to go top, but someone like lee sin, with high sustain, is too much for him.

You apparently aren't understanding something fundamental. Just because you have an AP mage on your team doesn't mean said mage must go to the midlane. You'd treat a Zed pick like you'd treat a Talon pick, and that means you'd pick an AP that is more than capable of going to the top lane. This can be Rumble, Mordekaiser, Vladimir, Kennen, or any other number of AP that can be safe or hard to gank without heavy coordinated effort. The one thing a top-lane mage misses out on is an early level 6 because the minions get to the lane slower, but they'd get the same amount of minion farm as they would mid. Additionally, having an assassin that can't really do his job effectively until 6 get there faster and be in a prime roaming position would be beneficial to your team.

The problem is that the current metagame isn't conducive to true assassins, and Zed is a true assassin (or at least designed to be one). You have to make your team around the knowledge that Zed is going mid -- you can't just throw him anywhere and expect him to work.

Step outside your box for like 2 seconds and actually analyze things instead of going "Oh, he's AD-based and not ranged, that means he goes top even though he gets slaughtered there".
