"Grag!" shouted the figure of an enormous, portly, woman. "C'min get yet meat!"

"C'min, ma!" an equally portly, though quite short in comparison, boy responded. Gragas waddled out of the thicket he had been playing in (for as a boy, he had not yet developed a swagger) and went over to the nicely set up picnic table where they had planned to eat lunch. He sat down and his eyes began to gloss over the selection of foods his mother had prepared, ranging from fried manatee to beer. BEER!

"Ma, can I have some beer?" Gragas asked in his most innocent voice.
"Not until ye're 16." His mother replied, curtly, and proceeded to hand him a fried manatee steak, while gazing disapprovingly at his grass-stained overalls.

Gragas, a wee lad of 12, has yet to have had his first beer. This is a coming-of-age tale in which a boy... becomes a man.
