GTX 650ti reviews are in!!!

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...,3318.htmlThey didn't drop the ball as much as the GTX 650 and 660/660ti, but still not all that great. It's 128bit card for 150. If they would have used the 192 bit like the 660/660ti it would probably best the GTX 560/HD 6870 and be competitive torwards the HD 7850. But if this card somehow gets down to the 120-130 range it would definitely be a recommended buy, but at 150, still too pricey.

How long do you think an i5 3470 will remain a solid processor for gaming? I'm trying to decide if I should drop the extra money on the 3470 right now and stick with it for several good years as opposed to going with a phenom ii x4 965 and upgrading to haswell in a little over a year.

Will the 3470 still be viable, say, 3 years from now?

The Phenom 2 x4 965 is a solid CPU. It has 1 more IPC than the Fx series which makes it far superior in gaming, however the intel lineup runs 6 IPC's. You would notice a difference in CPU bound games like wow, but is it worth dropping 170+60-120 for a board? Not really sure tbh, waiting wouldn't be a bad idea b/c haswell and broadway both offer some really interesting innovations to the industry.

However, I can see the I5-3470 lasting awhile, but for 3 years, i'd grab an I5-3570k so you can OC to keep up if needed.

Hm, I think I'll stick with the phenom and just upgrade to Haswell. The 3470 has a rebate right now and its only 180 bucks. The only reason I'd stretch for a lower end i5 is so I don't have to upgrade for a good long while and from the sound of it I'd probably be needing to upgrade from the 3470 in a 1-2 years....the 3570k would cost another 40 or so, plus I'd have to pay more to get an overclock capable board like a z77 or something.. At that point, I'd seriously be cutting into my gpu budget.

How does a phenom 965 and a 7870 sound to hold over until haswell?

What games do you play? HD 7870 might be a bit overkill in some cases. Unless you see an FPS discomfort in CPU bound tasks no reason to upgrade. Also steamroller is supposed to be pretty good. Piledriver is the finished bulldozer like how Windows 7 is the finished VIsta xD. Steamroller uses a new platform I believe.

I'll be playing games like Battlefield 3 and Witcher 2....so pretty graphics intensive games. I know BF3 multiplayer is also very cpu bound which is why I wanted the phenom over something like an i3 because four real cores beats 2 real cores and 2 virtual ones (or so I've heard) I also think I'll be recording some games. Not sure though, but I want a cpu that can multitask well enough to leave the possibility open.

The I3-3220 destroys the Phenom 2 x4 965 in mutlitasking, actually the A10-5800K does as well(but that uses an FM2 board) The IPC's in the I3 are high enough to literally get the job done twice as fast. It can process 6 instructions per cycle vs 3 of the phenom. However I do believe the phenom 2 x4 965 will probably beat my G860 CPU in online BF3, because that can fully use 3-4 threads.

Okay, thanks. That's very good to know

So I'm thinking i3 3220 and a 7850 then. Will that be capable of playing Battlefield 3 on high settings online? Also, if I decided to record, what sort of fps drop could I expect?

New AMD driver results are in! http://www.anandtech.com/show/6393/a...211-new-bundle

Also GTX 650(100 or less) is sorta recommended as is the GTX 650ti(135 or less tho)
