While I really like the cravat idea the the cut of the whole coat, I think it's a bit rigid in terms of Sona's more 'flowing' kind of theme.
Just speculating out loud now, but perhaps lengthening the back of that coat/adding tails (tailcoat tails, not furry tails). Maybe also some kind of pony tail too? I'm really not too sure at this stage.
Please post ideas/suggestions or even artworks, it would be a huge help

Well I am a little late but I am working on the same project. heheh
I do really like the reference picture, but I agree that it may be a little stiff for Sona. Do you plan to sew it from scratch or modifying clothes?
I think keeping the traditional neckline is important but you could raise it and make the collar its own 'separate' garment. It would have the tails and the sleeves (make them flared out) then connect it in the front. Turn it into a sort of Victorian overcoat. Then make an undershirt that is ruffled at the top.
As for the hair style I'd keep it like the reference you don't want to much going on hehehe.
I hope this helps. It may be more genderswaped then your looking for but if you tailor the coat correctly it should look rather masculine. Remember that hard line are more associated with men then flowing lines so you may have to compromise!
