The system as I understand it is that you have two pools:

1) The honor you have been given by other players
2) The honor you can give to other players

Using honor from 2, does NOT draw from 1.

Have fun!

Sounds like an awesome idea. I know you don't want to spill the beans too soon, but can you at least tell us whether there will be 'reasons for honoring' categories like what we currently have for reporting? I think it would solve a lot of the concerns about angry trolls racking up honor just because they played well.

We here at Riot have been hard at work trying to improve player behavior in League of Legends. Historically, we’ve reacted to toxic players through systems like LeaverBuster and the Tribunal that are great at identifying and punishing the worst of worst. However, players will often challenge Team Player Behavior and say, “Dr. Lyte, how are you a doctor?? Don’t know you know that positive reinforcement can also improve player behavior?” We agree with you! We know that we have a great community, but we haven’t done a great job providing tools to empower this community to proactively be even more awesome.

Today, we’d like to introduce Honor, our positive feedback initiative. We’re well versed in research done on concepts in psychology such as positive reinforcement and how it can improve behaviors, and we’ve also found that some of the most meaningful, memorable moments in League come from the positive interactions players have with each other. Everyone’s had one of these days: You are struggling in a game and find yourself in a situation where a teammate could have easily trolled or flamed you, but instead goes out of his way to be a helpful, compassionate team-player. He says, “Hey, don’t worry about the first blood.” You may not friend this player or ever play with him again, but this small, kind gesture made a difference and is something you remembered.

Through Honor you’ll be able to give something lasting back to those players who went out of their way to make your game experience better. Keep an eye out for Honor with the next PBE update, and expect to hear more about it in an upcoming patch!
Never. Once. Happened.

Maybe, MAYBE if you were playing with 4 friends.

Hello Lyte I have some questions and idea

Question:

Will this work kind of like Xbox live reputation system, where you can only give that eprson a rating 1 time so that it is not abused and your friends or foes can spam good/bad reviews on your profile?

Idea:

If there could be a way to implement an area in the profile of a player where you can see if that player has good bad/reviews that would be gr8. For example: I go check my buddy "Player X" and in his profile I go to player "Reputation or reviews" and I see people have given him good reviews as in (thumbs up) over bad reviews (thumbs down) I think most people would enjoy playing with this player and he seems like a fun and not aggressive-trollesk type of guy other people will have a chance to see these stats and know that this person is reliable and not offensive (troller).

On the other hand, I go into "Player Y" and on his profile he has mostly bad reviews because he has been banned a few times. Mostly trolls games and insults his team. Is infamous for going AFK and leaving games. Has more bad reviews then good ones. This person is mostly toxic and is somebody who needs to:

A- Improve his behavior because the community has categorized him as a toxic player and he needs to bring up his rep through good acts in game.

B- Quit the game because most people won't take the chance of playing with this player nor can he troll anyone because PRIOR to the game people can see this player is problematic.

I got this crazy idea from an Anime called Sword Art Online (amazing anime which you guys at Riot should check out if you haven't) where they have a color indicator for players who PK (player kill) and players who are good and well conducted. PKers have a RED indicator, as where none PKers or none offenders have a GREEN indicator. Maybe this can be implemented in away into league? A system that indicates a players reputation on his avatar in the pre-game lobby? Maybe these "reputation points" can divide the good citizens and the bad ones and Que them up individually and together? The bad with the bad and the good with the good type of thing?

I am glad you are encouraging good behavior. It's about time. But I can see this will have some flaws because nobody knows who is good and who is bad till "Welcome to summoners rift" blast through your speakers and the game starts. We need to prevent trollers from messing people games up PRIOR to even playing. Not after they have already done the bad deed. I think this idea (if further developed) can most certainly make this game enjoyable for those who come to ENJOY the game. And none enjoyable for those who come to suck the joy out of it.

I would really like your insight on my thoughts Lyte. Thank you for your time.

GL HF Enjoy yourselves!

Sounds like a good system. I always appreciate positive feedback, whether giving or receiving it.

Sounds like we'll be getting more details as it comes out. The pool idea is interesting, but it makes me wonder how limiting it would be. And are there going to be guidelines on what should and shouldn't constitute giving honor?

For example - I'm a pretty generous guy and I like to thank peeps for a lot of things. A jungler who always gives mid blue, a support who actually supports; wards like crazy and saves my life, a tank who sacrifices his life so that 4 teammates can escape, acknowledging a worthy opponent who gives me tips on what I did wrong in a matchup, even a "GL HF" or "gg wp"..... all of these situations are places where I might give honor. I do think they should be commonplace and I hope the community as a whole would get there.... but since they don't happen enough in the games I'm in right now, I'd be likely to honor individuals who promote this environment.

Would I have enough honor in my pool to reward them all? Or would I have to save my honor for those super special occasions that go above and beyond the call of duty? Would summoners have a growing pool as they positively contribute to the community? (These are probably all parts of your experiment!)

That last bit is kind of disappoint, but I can understand why you would disable it in custom situations.

But, I'm sure Riot is well aware of the Proving Grounds fanbase that exists and will do something about it soon that, by side-effect, will allow us to honor people there.
