Okay I'm not exactly 'new' but I haven't really spent much time invested in learning the ins and out of the game. What is Duo queueing and how does it work?

Due Queue is when you play together with one friend. Basically you start a game, choose arranged team, invite a friend and start the game. The reason people talk about it as different is because depending on the number of team members, the game will treat you differently. 5 man teams only fight against other 5 man teams, 4 man teams get a huge elo boost for the game and get matched against better players, 3 man teams are likely to be paired against other 3 and 4 premades, etc.

2 man teams are treated almost the same way as solo queuers, which is why people reffer to it as an alternative to going solo.

When you hit level 30, (if you haven't already) and decide you play ranked games, you will have a few options. There are 3 different ladders. 3v3 arranged team, 5v5 arranged team, and 5v5 solo queue. In order to play 5v5 arranged team, and be rated in that ladder, you must have 5 members of your team pre arranged. If you are wanting to be rated in solo queue, you can just play by yourself, OR you can click on arranged team, and then invite only 1 other player. Doing this will allow you to "duo queue". You and one friend can "solo queue" together, and you will be rated in the summoners rift solo queue ladder, even though you played with a friend.
