I recently got Sion and heard AD is great for him but not sure how to build him up, any tips or on how you all play him would be helpful, thanks in advance!

The only viable build for Sion is AP mid/roam. His kit allows him to push real hard and then gank top/bot lane and help get those lanes fed.

AD Sion has one of the worst possible early games in existence. It's insanely easy to shut him down. The reason people say that AD Sion is good is because of his lategame presence, which allows him to 1v1 any champion in the game because of his ultimate.

In short, AP Sion > AD Sion.

Thanks for the information! Is he still viable as AD?

He is, but only very select situations. You need a farm lane with zero kill potential. AD Sion's whole game is, "Farm top for 25 minutes, buy Atma's and a Phantom Dancer, and ace the other team." However, there are VERY few lanes that allow you to do this. Heck, Nasus counters him. He's almost universally outclassed.

I would say this is all basically incorrect
Sions stun/shield allows him to get in a suprisingly large amount of poke damage, and if you have any ability in controling minion waves you can keep the lane frozen just out of range of your tower and free farm while the enemy champ basically sits there and loses cs
AD sion puts out 1.3k-1.5k damage per hit, with a 110% crit chance, so he can basically two hit any almost any champ.
AP Sion only works if the enemy is too stupid to not pop your shield when it goes up. You will have absolutely no damage output, and the enemy will have no reason not to harass you to death, since you wont be able to hurt them.

So AD Sion works well?

Look kid, whoever down-voted me clearly doesn't know anything about viability.
AD Sion is squishy as hell unless he stacks resistance items. He's also going to get focused by everyone on the team (assuming they're not stupid) because he will be an insane threat. He'll also have a hell of a time in laning phase, because the jungler will also try to prevent him from farming. AD Sion is like Nasus, but requires more farm, and is much squishier and more ineffective.

AP Sion, on the other hand, is a very common pick in high ELO play. His shield scales with AP, not AD, so the more offence he stacks, the more defence he gets. His shield becomes insanely hard to pop, and does tremendous amounts of damage. Not only that, but he has one of the best CCs in the game that also acts as a nuke (if you build AP) AND, it's not a skillshot.

Go read some of the other threads made on the same topic by other people. I guarantee you that everyone will say that AP Sion is better.

AD Sion seems really good because he gets so much free AD, plus the huge Ult lifesteal/AS boost.

However, he actually has negative sustain with enrage up which is really bad since sustain is so important toplane. Vamp scepter can negate your losses but hes still at a disadvantage.

His other problem is lack of burst. All he has is low damage stun, then hit with an autoattack. And stun costs 100 mana!! Most tops can Gapclose, attack, attack resetter, and some other ability to either damage or mitigate damage and run off.
The 4 sec shield delay makes it unusable as a damage source, since they just run off when its up.

Oh yeah, he has zero range harass either so a Jayce/anyone really can totally shut him down.

Endgame he has the problem that he STILL has no burst. Even with 1000 DPS, if he gets CCed and bursted down, he was totally useless. Its like playing Tryndamere with no ult!

So AD Sion MUST build some tankiness and not try to rush Inf Edge, 2 PDs. This is really expensive.

If you ARE gonna try him, take enrage first for easier last hitting, keep it on (for free health), then 1 level of stun somewhere, then MAX DAT SHIELD. If enemy is melee with gapcloser, when they attack, bring up the shield! It can negate a lot of damage and might even blow up on them.

Alternatively you can bring up shield when YOUR creeps are about to die, not theirs. That will cause them to miss last hits since they don't want to eat your shield damage which is pretty high, and its hard for them to knock your shield down until level 10+.

But honestly I'd avoid playing AD Sion. Its just too easy to lose to most of the common top laners and get totally shut down, unable to farm, then you suck the entire game with no chance to come back.

why dont you try both sides of the spectrum pick what you like and go with that because as you can see the community is divided on this issue. just remember ap sion maxing stun and sheild. ad sion maxing that e and use ult for the lifesteal. You could also try hybrid heavy ap build.
