What do you do?

"Out-sustain him" is a typcial answer, but lifesteal requires you to get within his range. And it's not as if he can't just buy sustain for 450g.

Depends who you're topping with. Renek can out-sustain easily with his Q. Shyv can lifesteal **** easily and you're likely to have lifesteal Quints on those two anyway (not the best idea but far from the worst). If you've got a few ranged skills, spam them in his face to make him flee a bit and sacrifice pacing. You can even mess with his head by getting Thornmail, where if he hits you it won't be so rough (still ow) and it'll help by harming him as well.

Or just swap with your AP mid, should that midder have a bit of tankiness, and keep him at range and harassed.

Buy armor, avoid getting caught in prolonged exchanges so you don't let his bleed stack high and drain you out. Blow your skills and get out of there if you have to exchange at all.

Easier said than done since he has his grab, sure. But it's either that or feed him.

Harass him at range.

"What if you can't do that"

I don't pick champs that can't do that.

If you play nasus, keep building tank items and farming your Q. Just don't overextend and keep warding river. As long as you play smart he poses little threat to you. Just remember to back out early if he is playing overaggressively and keeps throwing bleed stacks on you and his ult is off cooldown.

Like other early game melee bullies, try staying away from him, but within exp range. If he overextends and your jungler won't/can't come to help, try buying sustain/health gold (philosopher's stone for sustain, heart of gold for HP) along with armor and some HP to surive him. If you can't effectively farm, do what you can by or under the tower and take wolves/golems (depending on your side) if your lane pushes out.

Darius, as they say, is only fun for Darius. Don't give him kills and he'll be all the more eager to (and less able to survive long enough to) steal kills from his ADC later on.

One of his big weaknesses is that he's easy to gank and that his summoners tend to get overconfident and push their lanes because of his bully factor. If your jungler can't or won't help and you can't outmatch him 1v1 (or at least poke him), there's just not much you can do but survive the lane, IMO.

The best way to counter him is so easy its the most overlooked item in the game. The answer is simple dorans shield. 2 to be exact, if u get two as early as possible he wont be able to do anything against you besides gank n' dunk. But you shouldnt be overextending against him anyways. The armor in them has enough to balance out the damage, n the life regen is enough to counter act most of his stacked bleeding damage.. if you fought him and actually died using my strategy, he was either super fed, you tried to fight him when you had little bit of health, or he is just a better player than you.

In the beggining i had so much trouble playing against him with jax, but then started using this strategy and found myself winning lane just about everytime.
So try it out.

Have you consider asking your mid to help you?

If you see mid lane doing well in lane, consider asking him to gank top to give you some breathing room.

Your Jungler isn't the only one that can Gank top lane :P

Nasus is actually probably a really, really good counterpick to Darius. Nasus' Q can get really, really strong over the course of the game, if you're last-hitting minions with it effectively.

Nasus' W will slow Darius, who is already prone to being kited.

Nasus' E will melt Darius' resistances.

Nasus' R does damage based on a percentage of the enemy's health, which is good, since Dariuses tend to build tanky since they can do so and still get kills.
