Nasus is my favorite character and my main. I often find that I can really make a big difference on my team with this character. He fills a lot of roles. He farms well, he jungles well, he tanks well. Just a good rounded out guy.

Before I get into the build let me just get a few things that have been bothering me out first.

What Nasus is and isnt:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
#1. You are not a mage, dont even argue. Go build Nasus with AP and see if I am a liar. Nothing scales well. You are not Annie, you are not Viegar, you arent even little Teemo with his AP nastiness. Dont go AP, don't use items with AP.... you don't have the room.

#2 You are not an assasin. You do not get to go SS first, power it up and then run around killing people with 2 hits. I tried this many times and it just doesnt happen. If you are doing it you are gimping your team and robbing them of vital support. Yes, there will be times when you slow someone chase them down and beat them to death, it will happen, you will have tons of kills, but its not how you need to think.

Ok, so what do you do.... you Tank, you have hp, armor, and a sweet ultimate. Use it, keep your team mates alive, beat people to death.

What do you bring thats different? Well first off, your CC ability Wither will save folks and trap them, allowing your team to live and escape and to trap and MuRdER. use it on your focused targets. use it to get people off your team mates etc.

AOE... this ability is very misunderstood in any guide i have seen. The best part of this ability is its huge raidus ANDDDD it LOWERS ARMOR. You will out push aoe caster heroes... hell all champions period... because you LOWER ARMOR. Watch and call me a liar, when you use it guess what... your allies hit harder, you hit harder, your MINIONS hit harder. It amps your whole team and lanes damage. If you aren't spamming and cant spam it you are wrong. Keep it up all the time wherever you are, don't worry I am going to tell you how to.

Skill order:
-------------
One point each in the order below, yes thats all three abilities up front, you need them all first. One SF is enough to start pushing, Wither will catch people who get to close or allow you to get an early gank, and you need to use SS for last hits as soon as you can, its cheap.

1. SF
2. W
3. SS

Also, remember your sheen, Shaco players will have this skill down, use ability, hit, ability, hit, ability hit..... every time you cast sheen activates, use it. Then cast again.

Now.... max SF and SS... your call what order....

Remember, SF makes SS hit harder, and EVERYONE hit harder, its more important than the damage alone [ damage is nice too :-) ]

Finish wither.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BUILD:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok lets do the build and I will talk more afterward.

This is the order I get them in, its my build, feel free to take or leave what you want, the order could be changed.

First i get mekis, and 1 point in soul fire for spamming. Now if I am in a lane with anyone, nasty melee, assasins, or ranged I can push them. Always get this first unless you have a team strat.

1. Build mekis to a chalice. Mana problem solved, now go and enjoy owning your lane, CC when they get close, spam your aoe and watch the money roll in.

2. Boots - your a tank, get mercuries for caster heavy or tabi for melee, your call.

3. Sheen - amps your SS, this is a lot of damage and it will help you early, both pushing, killing and charging it. Also you will jungle well at about this point.

4. Starks Favor - Armor reduction, highest attack speed on a single item, brings your life steal up to a cool 40% with passive, and it gives a great life steal, attack speed, and healing bonus to everyone around you. It means that combined with your AOE your an armor killing *****.

Also you tank great with life steal, trust me.... another reason to have cleanse handy to break stuns and make sure you are hitting.

5. Mana manipulator -> then sell your chalice and build a Soul Shroud. NOW you have 15% cooldown, 580 extra health, and 12 mana regen, PLUS you are giving cooldown and mana to your team, which is great support.

6. Snag a glacial shroud to round out cooldowns and tanking. You will almost have your cooldowns maxed, 500 extra mana, and nice armor, oh yeah its on.

(Ok, thats the easy part, now it gets expensive)

OK, at this point you do any order you want, but here are the last 3 items to build.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
7. Glacial to Frozen - > max cooldowns Crazy armor, its your cheapest next item so I do get it but its not the most powerful item so maybe skip it a while.

8. Infinity Edge... you will pwn people in the face with your beefy SS nothing needs to be said about this item.

9. Trinity force... if for nothing other than the slow and 150% damage added to your SS
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And thats it. There are tons of other items you can get, there are lots of builds, this is just my favorite, its a balance of your attributes and I think the biggest mistake folks make with Nasus is focusing on one ability instead of all 3.

Final Thoughts and Tips...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Masteries.... I dont care, whatever you want. there is no wrong answer, max the damage tree, or go defense, or go ultility, they all have their strengths.... I will play around with it when I finish leveling, right now I am defense for lower cooldown on Cleanse.

Cleanse cleanse cleanse.... the #1 reason I die is stuns/disables.... fear, whatever, use CLEANSE so you can keep attaching and regening HP. Its key to your tank

Save your ultimate for pushing, or when you are at about 3/4 health or so. It gives you up to 600 hp end game, and will just annoy eveyrone around you. If you need some extra dps to round out a kill grab it. BUt dont ever pop it first if you dont need it. It sucks to blow it and waste it. (about 78 sec or 72 sec cooldown with max CD items above)

When you power up your SS and item it some you are a TOWER killing *****. You can hit towers for tons of damage with just whisper, sheen and a few last hits under your belt. use your ultimate to kill things around the tower and hit it even faster and harder. Your one of the best tower killers in the game IMO, because you can kill towers and tank at the same time, (other than that tower killing ***** Yi)

Ok, so I didn't go to much into abilities other than items and play style but if you have questions I will check the thread. There are a few other guides out there that will tell you the basics on abilities the focus here was items primarily.

I've been involved in a long and lively discussion about Nasus in a previous guide thread here:

http://www.leagueoflegends.com/board...ad.php?t=19464

You definitely have the right idea about playing Nasus. Though you say he's a tank, and then you buy a Last Whisper instead of tanking items? Are you talking about runing and masterying for tanking? I'd probably go 9/0/21 and arpen/cooldowns/mana regen myself.

Even for a "tank/support" build, it pays to get a Trinity Force early. Spend the LW money on the Trinity Force, then move on to the Shrouds. Personally, I'd only get one of the shrouds since the blue rune will make up the difference for "free".

At least you recognize the value of SF (without building for AP) and aren't one of those noobs who thinks ZOMGZ SS PWNZ ALL LOLZ.

Our builds are very similar.. Right now I build him:

Sapphire Crystal + HP pot x 2
Catalyst the Protector
Boots of Swiftness
Sheen
Phage
Zeal
Trinity Force
Glacial Shroud
Infinity Edge

Then build Frozen Heart, Banshee's Veil, and/or Guardian Angel to taste, depending on groups.

I try to keep the golem buff on me throughout the game. Having it is like night and day for Nasus, and his lifesteal makes it easy for him to get it once he has Sheen. If you can't get it for whatever reason, then it's probably worth it to get Soul Shroud before IE.

Interesting, I like your build. I do walk a fine edge between tanking items, but in my experience if the items I listed arent working for you, then your team probably isnt very good. No matter what items you stack your dead when you get focused.

Also, cooldown is very important to me. I want to spam SF and SS and getting my ultimate every minute almost is nice... I think the ultimate is worth a tank item in and of itself....

as far as the runes, yes they make up for the item. but everyone relies on them. Shaco wants em, kassidin wants em... I would rather be self sufficient and with shroud and glacial you have plenty of regen and mana.

I like the trinity force though, maybe I will get that before my Edge, its cheaper and rounds you out nicely. I find that sheen, whisper allows enough damage/penetration to start hitting 700 pt crits, so you see the whisper helps... and attack speed is so important for life steal, which is also how we tank.

I think it would be wrong to build nasus like a regular tank. We really arent, kinda the support to the tank. Nasus to me is the center of the wheel, he holds it together, and can move around and help

Last game I took jumped in front of a weak teammate took an arrow from Ashe, cleansed it and then wither/SS'd her to death for it. Freakin fantastic, took no real damage thanks to my ultimate and cleanse.

I simply can't agree with the theme of this guide and I find it rather misleading.

You emphasized Nasus' tanking ability yet your item choices does not reflect your guide's theme at all. You have more DPS items than you do tanking items. With your build you would at best have maybe 140 armor without adding your own stats as you level. It would appear that you try to emphasize health, which while not wrong is certainly not the best way to go about it. Without mitigation you cannot possibly stand up to any carry who would easily shred you to pieces without armor/MR.

Frankly, this guide is more like a hybrid tanking/DPS guide than a true guide for tanking Nasus.

This guide has a lot of good points on how Nassus should be played. I like the wheel analogy someone used.. that is exactly how i always envisage nassus. I have to agree that the item build is a little too dps oriented for my taste.. i would much rather focus on reducing opp dps , buff my armor and mr more and basically focus on staying alive rather than get higher crits. There is time for that towards endgame anyway.

Good guide nonetheless

I hear you both. But I think if you play him as either dps or as a tank he is not useful.

Here, I am doing this off the cuff but I think his stats are something like:

Around 200 armor, and around 3200 hp with the items I listed.... so with your ultimate up its about 3800ish hp. He has a lot of armor and hp and magic resist all on his own without gear.

My build tries to make each of Nasus' abilities function usefully because you use all 3 all the time to make Nasus work. You have max cooldowns so he can use his SS and ultimate as often as he can. Both greatly increase his survivability.

He has extra armor and hp that help him survive. He has all the armor penetration and attack speed you could want so he hits hard and steals life... this is key

Life steal is LIFE. Putting damage on SS greatly increases his tank ability. If I am in combat with him and not stunned I can outlive a FULLY GEARED master Yi... actually I think when I beat master Yi I probably had more attack speed than that..... but with wither and your ultimate you can beat Yi with damage before he kills you.

If you go all armor for tanking you will be...ok.... but you won't do any real damage, and people will ignore you. That has been my tanking experience...

If you want to build someone to be a pure tank then play someone like Allistar, who can stun and knock back.

Nasus can tank because he has a lot more armor and HP than other champions but hes not the best tank, what you do is use his survivability to DEBUFF, WITHER the biggest melee threat, and SMACK AROUND weak targets, while SCARING ****LESS everyone around you with your ultimate....

When I round a corner with my ultimate up, people back up, or they target me.... either way my team is able to do what they need to do.

I've been playing tank Nasus a fair bit recently my ideal item build looks something like Boots, Triforce, Aegis, Starks, Frozen Heart, Soul Shroud. Obviously games usually don't last long enough to complete this entire build but you get the idea. Instead of focusing on putting out a ton of damage in order to get people to focus on me I instead put out a ton of auras so the rest of my team puts out more damage and has greatly increased survivability. I've found that in a team fight Nasus' ult in combination with auras and his AoE should be a good enough reason for the enemy to start focusing on me.

Usually I build Chalice of Harmony first as it allows me to SF every wave of creeps every time but, if the game starts going long I'll replace it with the Soul Shroud. While laning I'll build Sheen and Boots and am usually successful at building Aegis around the time of the first teamfights. The combination of SF and SS makes Nasus one of the best farmers in the game so its very important to pick your laning partner (if you have one) intelligently. Another AoE farmer is a particularly bad choice as you'll both be competing for the same gold. A ganker is a great choice as you'll be able to wither him up some kills pretty regularly. Nasus can solo a lane well, even against many ranged champs but, if your team only has one solo it should go to your carry. For this reason, a jungler is great to have on a team with Nasus as the extra solo lane can be utilized safely and effectively.
