### Question about Armor Penetration

So, I just bought a bunch of Armor Penetration runes (Greater Mark of Desolation) but when I put them on, I see in the champion info screen that my percentage reduction of armor hasn't changed.

For example, before runes, I see this:

Armor Penetration - 6 / 10%

After runes I see this:

Armor Penetration - 16 / 10%

So, does this mean that the flat number is completely unrelated to the percentage value or does it mean that I need way more runes before the percentage will change? Is there some sort of threshold you have to cross before the 10% goes up to 11%.

I'm starting to think (hoping) that they're unrelated stats that are applied in different ways during combat. Anyone know the answer to this?

Thanks in advance!

The 10% reduction is separate from your flat reduction. You're getting it from your masteries.

Flat reduction is applied before percentage, so you would reduce an enemy's total armor by 16, then shave 10% off of that before your physical damage was dealt.

The percentage is what percent of armor you ignore, the flat is the amount of flat armor you ignore.

For instance, with 6|10%, if they have 46 armor, you would be ignoring 46-6=40*9 36 armor. With 16\10% armor, you would be ignoring 46-16=30*.9 27 armor.

Err if you had 6|10% andthey had 46 you would be ignoring 10 armor... not 36.... 36 armor is what they would have.

with 16|10% and 46 armor you would be ignoring 19 armor.... 27 armor is what they would have.

But not obviously what he was saying with his words.
