Reducing the crit damage or chance is a better idea than flat out stopping crits from happening (assuming it's a passive effect on the item) but why not take a sword of the divine approach to anti-critical?

Just give an item a click effect that lasts 5 seconds and makes it so you can't be hit by a critical, on a minute long cooldown or so. It would provide a defense that would work well, but not be frequent enough to make it OP.

Immunity to critical strikes would be very hard to balance. I would suggest an item that instead reduced critical bonus damage by some percent.

Chain Mail (700)
Cloth Armor (300)
Giant's Belt (1150)

Armor of the Stone (recipe) (1000)

500 health
75 armor
-50% critical strike bonus damage taken

(after the patch the armor would be reduced due to the global item change)

An item like this could be used to counter critical chance and critical damage stackers, and would be usable by tank, mage, or physical dps.

Whatever form it takes (reduces crit damage, crit chance, immune to 1 crit every 2 seconds, whatever) the important thing is that it should be worse than armor vs reasonable level of crits, scaling up to much better than armor vs a crit stacking carry. This makes it a good choice in some situations and a bad choice in others.

For example if their team has a damage\AS twitch, it'd be worse than just getting armor. If their team was being carried by a shaco or trynd, it would be better than armor.
