Notes and Tactics

Levels 1-5 (AP BUILD)
Early on you want to establish lane dominance while keeping up a passive harassment plan.
You have either choice of using Jack in the Boxes for creep kills to assist in pushing/cc/cash.
Or you can plant some along the outer edges of your lane for harassment/retreat areas. Use deceit
for quick get aways or harassment BEHIND your target, you want to make sure you get your full damage worth.

As a side note, try to be very conservative with your mana.

Levels 6-10 (AP BUILD)
This is about the time you can dominate in ganks. You can stray from your lane and grab their or your team's golem buff. This will enable you to spam your spells without worrying too much about mana. As jester, you want to plan ahead in ganks. Either block their escape route or make sure you have one. This means a Jack in the Box in either the direction you want to escape or the one you force them to use.

Levels 11-18 (AP BUILD)
Same story here except you're more buff and now have Two-Shiv Poison. When in team fights,
Be sure to drop your jack in the box first. You can approach team fights in various ways, either you run in use your illusion and stealth out or you can nuke them from afar and stealth into any lows or stragglers.

_____________________________________

Levels 1-5 (DPS BUILD)

Harassment and mana conservation are key. Last hit creeps when possible but don't get yourself injured for them. Play aggressive with the point of staying defensive.

Levels 6-10 (DPS BUILD)
You can now roam around and gank, make sure to pick your targets and timing carefully. Choose any target that your laning team mates can assist you with. If theres a jungler you can hunt for him real quick if you choose to do so. When approaching a gank be sure to coordinate with your team mate and only pop out in stealth. Do not use too much mana in a gank unless you know you will kill them. Always best to play safe and conserve mana for your Deceive.

Levels 11-18 (DPS BUILD)
Again, same story as mid game, you should also now have Jack in the Box. These are key for controlling your team fights better, and delaying runners or blocking routes. Its also safe to use these for your escape routes should a gank go terribly wrong.

Advanced Tactics

Having read the general part of the guide, you now should have a basic idea of what shaco is about. This part of the guide will explain in further detail how to/I play him effectively.

Golem Grabbing

Snagging golem early on is very essential if you don't have a laning partner that offers mana or mana regeneration. That said, you can easily solo golem at level 1 without smite. Rush towards your golem after buying your items and start stacking Jack in the Boxes. 5 are needed to completely kill golem without taking too much damage yourself. You should be able to get into your lane before creeps start dying.

Through the course of the game, you will want to grab golem whenever it is up, it offers great mana regen and cooldown reduction.

So keep an eye out for them!

Neutral Nonsense

The jungle is your friend, at many points in the game the other team cut through forests or try to farm cash off neutrals. You want to place your jack in the boxes (1 or 2 per brush) in various brushes near creeps in the jungles. This will often deter junglers or farmers. It also lets you keep track of where people are on the map. This will also keep those pesky people from stealing your golem!

You will also be going through these jungles as you're on your way to gank or you may run into someone. Having some preset Jack in the Boxes are real life savers. Drag anyone who chases you into a jungle you already 'boxed' up, use the narrow pathways and your boxes to your advantage. You can easily kite a team through a forest with taking minimal to no damage. Try and keep them away from a few or any newly placed ones so if they do have someone low enough to finish you can deceive/shiv and make a clean get-away to another box.

Note: Make sure to keep the placement out of range of creeps, otherwise they'll focus on those.

Jungle Juking

This is a pretty simple concept, but I've seen a lot of jesters not use it. If being chased through jungles against some other blinkers or anyone that can cut through walls/stun you. Place your Jack in the boxes ahead of where YOU think THEY think you will run then run the opposite way.

Also, should a whole team be after you, use the brush to your advantage. Rather than constantly using deceive and wind up in a stun with it down and all of them beating on you, run into brushes and deceive backwards INTO their group and run the opposite way. This is usually the cleanest of get aways. However, if you know they have an elixer active deceive to an opposite brush and place a Jack in the Box on yourself and keep running toward the pathway they took chasing you in.

Planned Popups

When ganking as Jester solo or with team, its always good to have an escape route or close one off for your target. This means actually planning ahead with your boxes and accounting for other variables such as their team mates coming to help them.

Before going in for the gank, always set up boxes in possible escape routes for you or your opponent. This ensures a few things, you will get out alive or he/she won't. Take the time to also plan for any assisting team mates of theirs. Box up possible pathways that any of them might take to help in the gank. The fear and damage will slow and weaken them often opening up another kill and making sure you get your targeted one.

________________________
Determining Hotspots

There are good places and bad places to set your Jack in the Boxes. With it having a fairly long cooldown and only 90 second life span, you want to maxamize its usage. To make sure you get the right spots on where to place these, pay attention to your game more thoroughly. Where are the majority of your fights taking place? Where does the other team run to? Where do yours get chased to? Having these in mind, you also want to pick spots where theres high possibilities of engagement. These spots usually are around, mid, dragon, baron, top and right forests.

This will give you sight and help your team out should they engage or get chased.

________________________
Illusion confusion

Shaco's Illusion is one of his most useful tools its use is quite narrow but works like a charm majority of the time.

Mind Games

This is what Shaco is all about, tricking your opponent up so much that you have the clear advantage when he/she doesn't notice it. His illusion emphasizes this in a big way. When being chased and you can use this ability its great to use as a get away dummy. You can pop him out in a brush and let your opponents see it run while you wait for them to pass or run the opposite direction.

Apart from using it as a running tool, you can use him to trick your opponents into following it back in the forest where you have 2-4 jack in the boxes waiting. This works great if you use it at low health. People don't seem to resist low health shaco's.
You can then jump them and kill them easily then laugh afterwards.

Randomization is key to being successful with the illusion. If you used it as a bait trick before, people won't fall for it again. So be sure to keep it at random moments of chasing or being chased so when LoS is lost they think they have you when its just the illusion.

Tower diving with the illusion is great fun and snags you a kill occasionally. You can approach this two ways. You can scare the low health person into yourself with your illusion, or you can give your illusion a head start by taking some damage from the tower and then backing off. This gives your illusion the chance to chase after and explode, killing them.

Dummy yourself!

When using the illusion its sometimes good to use yourself as the dummy and keep the illusion waiting at your traps. When the other team realizes its you at low health they will often chase you. You can lead them towards a brush with plenty of boxes AND your illusion. Then deceive away and come in and clean up after the mess.

In team fights, you can often run towards the other team and pop your illusion out then deceive behind them before taking too much damage. This gives good initial AoE damage to their team so your team can come in while you lay a box right behind them and finish off/assist in any kills.

Laning

Laning Partners

Like in the culinary world, there are good pairing and bad pairings. Here's a list of good/bad champions to lane with.

Good Laning Partners

Soraka
Katarina
Twitch
Nunu
Teemo
Fiddle
Tristana
Ashe
Sion
Taric
Ryze
Card Master
Blitzcrank
Morgana
Singed
Chogath
Dr. Mundo
Corki
Alistar

Bad Laning Partners

Evelynn
Zilean
Kassadin
Rammus
Karthus
Malphite
Gankplank
Veigar
Amumu
Sivir
Tryndamere
Annie
Jax
Yi
Warwick

Agressive Laning

If you have golem buff/soraka/mana manipulator in your lane you can play agressively without having to worry about mana too much. To play aggressive in a lane its great to use your deceive in a brush out behind your opponent(s) and set a jack in the box and attack the target with no regen/lower hp.

Do this over and over constantly getting your opponents' health down until you're ready to get that final burst off with your laning partner.

If you did not grab Jack in the Box, Two-Shiv from the brush and Deceive onto them for harassment. Make sure to choose your time properly and have your partner attack with you.

Defensive Laning

This is for when your golem buff is gone or you didn't get it or do not have mana manipulator or soraka in your lane. Stick back behind your creeps and use your Jack in the Box to fear/attack creeps. Try and last hit any your Jack in the box doesn't and farm up.

Set a few boxes on the edges of the lane just in case they try to gank you. Those will be safe spots.

If you did not grab Jack in the Box laning is a bit harder and you have to be careful when you last hit and save your two-shiv/deceive for counter-harassment.

Why? What's wrong with waiting until release?

Probably to reserve the title "Why so serious?" before anyone else took it.

I don't get it, You are making a Batman's Joker reference with your title, but the Champion is a Jester, which is more like Harley Quinn.

Is your connection that Joker and Quinn were together? or did you make some mistake of comic book references mixed with LoL here?

Nothing wrong. Nobody is put out, no harm done.

Just seems unnecessary. You could've spent those 15 seconds explaining to Riot why Soraka is OP.
