How to counter Poppy

In SR, it's Banshee's and Quicksilver sash. You cleanse the damage increase and Banshees ruins her combo, cutting her damage 1/2. It's very expensive but that's why Poppy is so good late game. She isn't picked a lot because in the current META there really isn't a place to send Poppy.

But, in Dominion, late game hit's much faster and there are no real lanes so she's much more viable there. Just had a game against a Poppy and our first pick was said, "No one bothered to counter-pick Poppy."

So, in that spirit, who is a counter pick to Poppy? How could I itemized against her, when Banshees isn't in the game mode?

get the thingy that gives a 10% magic reduction and some MR. Should cut her damage down. Put ranged silences or stuns would help so she can't come in and combo you.

Odyn's helps a lot, since it gives a lot of MR and 10% magic resistance lowering. The big thing is that you need to space yourself so you don't get smashed into a wall. Sometimes it's unavoidable, but a lot of the time it's not.

As for Poppy counterpicks, anyone with a reliable stun can shave off a lot of her DI time if she does DI on that character. Likewise, slows can eliminate her movespeed buff to some degree and give her less ability to space a proper wallslam. Nothing can perfectly counter her during DI, unfortunately -- unless she DIs you. Obviously if you're the DI target, you should spam CC on her and make yourself a big problem. This is more attractive if you're an attractive target.

Magic damage is pretty effective against Poppy, just because her W doesn't give any bonuses to it and Rylai's has a nice slow. Anivia in particular I like against Poppy; she's a good "soft target" that can be made a lot harder to kill with items, she has slows and a stun, although her base movespeed is poor. She also doesn't do a lot of her damage in single big hits, with the exception of her chilled E combo, which lets her deal with Poppy's passive a bit.

I personally don't think there's a really good "counter" to Poppy, but she's still manageable with good play. Don't get caught out of position too often and you shave off a lot of her effectiveness. Poppy is best when she has good teammates who can put you in a bad spot or let Poppy get into a good one.

Depends what kind of poppy. Triforce poppy MR usually helps a lot, lichbane AP poppy nothing helps except not letting it reach 20+m.

Not getting insta-gibbed by her lategame is nearly impossible sometimes. The best you can do is get someone who can actually damage her effectively. Burst champions don't work on her, you need someone who can peck her to death. It pains me to say this, but the best counter is...on-hit Teemo. Blind stops the Q from landing, and with a full set of on-hit weapons Poppy will go down pretty fast.

On hit kayle is probably the fastest poppy smasher actually, pretty easy to kill her during your immunity from full late game.

Part of the problem is she's bugged and will stun you in the clear without a wall.
Played some LAN 3v3 custom games over the weekend, and there was some wtf over this.

Nocturne works.

Teemo, Sivir, Kayle, Vlad are probably some other reasonable champions who can troll her out of her full dash-hammer combo, and fight back.

The problem is that in a teamfight, her ult is going to let her live, while you are otherwise also getting beat on by Poppy's teammates.

Poppy is just one of that champions that forces a lot of knowledge & fast reaction burden. The timing of activating such defenses to avoid the megaburst, and QSS if you go that route to remove her ult. Such reaction is often difficult for less experienced players, so she's fairly pub-stompy on Dominion.

There is no real Counter to poopy. You "counter" her by banning her if playing draft, or by picking similarly "overpowered" champs like Akali, oldJax, Tryndamere, Rammus, WuKong, and so forth.

Poppy cannot combo anyone from 100 to 0% in dominion, unless they are absolutely braindead and have zero defenses. True squishies are fairly rare in dominion since there are few true teamfights and thus tank support is gonna be limited.

AD Poppy is a lot more popular than AP simply because AD works better to increase her movespeed (zeal to triforce), and allows sustained damage... vs charging in and dev blow and hope they are close to dead. Or trying to use deathfire grasp to combo someone down.
Therefore, AD Poppy is simply a stronger version of Xin,Irelia, etc for the most part.
