Can't you like, Nerf SOPA?

Just leave Irelia alone for a while, and focus on SOPA.

Then you can go back to nerfing her when it's over.

I can't believe they're trying to enslave us by trying to control absolutely everything.

How is all this going to affect other countries?

I would LOVE to stop this going through somehow, but I'm in Australia and would find it difficult to have any say in another countries matters.

This is just a perfect example of the rich, that is the American Parlimentary members, the same ones who wanted to vote against the latest bail out the American government took, as the rich people of the country, to get richer whilst the poor get shafted.

They want all their high profile friends in high places to keep puring in the money. It wouldn't suprise me if Barrack stopped this. He is a good man, but the ingrates he has on parliament with him are just looking out for themselves.

this should not happen, i messaged my congressmen/women and hopfully enough other people have too... i am tired of giving up rights without even knowing about it. our founding fathers have stated giving up rights for protection deserve neither. so in this day in age why do we keep giving up rights without even being told. the government does a horrible job at making their movements heard.

Yes, anything you do related to using anything from the US will affect you.
If you only use content and things from your own country nothing will happen to you as far as I know.

If you play League of Legends then obviously whatever will happen to League will happen to you since you are using League of Legends.

If you use any other product that resides from the US or any company that owns it from that country then it will apply to that as well.

This thing that is going to be passed through almost looks like a terrorist attack in all honesty the more I do research on it since it's only being done to the US.

BTW, this just started end of 2011.

If people would look at the indicators they would start to notice it's like something disguised in the form of a legal matter.
Someone professional should take a look into this because this looks really **** fishy.

I already go to school, work and take care of better things and seriously I have to do research on this and dig up **** like this?
Come on ****ing trolls IRL won't even give me a **** break.

No, but some people are getting caught. everyone is acting like if this piece of legislation goes through, everyone that owns a computer is going to jail, if you talk online, jail, post on a message board, go to jail. NO. Dont break the law, you dont go to jail
Somehow the internet let people forget that you arent supposed to break the law, and now that our government is trying to enforce those laws, everyone is mad because their ability to pirate music and porn will be in jeopardy.
DONT BREAK THE LAW
you all arent complaining about an infringement on your REAL rights, youre mad because of the infringement on your perceived right to pirate copy-written content.'
you illegally download music or reproduce copy-written material, you are a criminal, and a website that allows it should be held liable too.
SOPA has very little to do with piracy, in the end. It has a lot to do with the freedom of the Internet.

SOPA lets someone say "That site has copyright infringing material on it." Then that site, without due process or trial, gets shut down. That site then has to spend money and time getting through potential legal issues (where it has the burden of proof to prove it wasn't violating copyright) and paperwork before it can get up and running.

The issue is how open ended it is. As is, a member from Heroes of Newerth's staff or fanbase could make allegations that League of Legends was using a copyrighted music track in one of the champion previews. Even if they were wrong/lying, League of Legend's web servers would get automatically taken down & any attempts to access them would redirect to a US government notice. It would then be days or weeks before they were able to go up again. And the same thing could happen hours, days or weeks after the business was concluded.

And it would likely mean no more chat servers as we know it, because the same people could allege that users were exchanging links to torrents in a game of LoL, and riot would be held accountable. "Remove the ability to say anything in chat with an http," you say? Not good enough! Because you could still allege that LoL players were posting the ends of URLS for things like youtube videos (ie. 0QEa4TiHDBA) where copyrighted music or video was contained. And even if this wasn't happening, you could still say it was and Riot would be obligated to prove it wasn't. That would mean Riot's money going to legal fees and their efforts going to reworking the chat servers & removing any possibility of copyright infringement by their users.

And it's possible because the bill is so open ended and vague, and all it would take is one fanboy or jerk to make the allegation, submitting a notice to the powers that be.

That's just the potential effects on LoL, if the bill goes through; even leading to something as extreme as there being no more champion previews, no more chat, period. Consider the ramifications all over the web. Only big companies that were capable of fighting the lawsuits would stay up, and companies like wikipedia, youtube and facebook would likely come tumbling down because they had no way of controlling or monitoring the vast amounts of content their users produced. Small business websites would likely be unable to keep going, because of the need to handle or save for potential legal costs, and the interruption of service at key moments in the business' growth.

This is what SOPA is. A bill passed by greedy entertainment industry execs and old men with no grasp of what the internet really is, and people like you who can't even be bothered to do the research on what its about before supporting it. The end to the internet as we know it.

I love LoL even more now. It is awesome to see that the creators and owners of this great game don't have their heads up their butts like so many other companies. Apparently I also love Jared Polis, very cool.
