Why not build Kog'Maw as a standard ranged AD carry?

I say stay flexible. Yea, build your Malady and Bloodrazor as a core, but from there, stay on your toes. If your enemy starts rolling out heavy MR, go AD. With all that AS, with just an IE added on you'll cause a significant amount of additional pain. If they're bulking up the armor, continue the magic damage beating.

Kog'Maw's damage to buildings and enemy (non-super) creeps is absolutely pathetic unless you go either AD or AP; almost all your damage is %-based. You can absolutely melt the tank, then spend 10+ seconds cleaning up the creep wave. Malady+Madred's on Kog is pretty much the ultimate in tank-melting (and decent against super-creeps), but you're not always going to need to do that. There are so many items that are potentially good on him that it really depends on what you're facing and what your team needs.
