If your opponent is running way you won't be able to use the full advantage of attack speed.

Armor pen is 100% handsdown the best runes for physical damage. The only advantage attack speed runes have are for jungling, as you pen more armor than some will have with 9x red desolation and 3/3 in sunder.

which does more dps over 5 seconds with, say, 0 damage and +100 damage? There are more variables than that, and the chasing thing is big (thanks, diamant!), but it is completely illogical to suggest attacks speed is better for jungling while armour pen is better versus heroes.

In fact, the less armour someone has, the more effective armour pen is. Providing you still have as much or more armour pen than they have armour.

You can't penetrate past 0 armor, so what happens is actually the opposite.
This topic has been discussed many times.

Go learn some game mechanics before you call a senior member "completely illogical."

Isn't attack speed more effective for champs with a higher natural attack speed? Also, more attack speed means more on hit effects, higher frequency of critical hits, lower negative effect from misses, which can also play a big role in deciding which would be best to stack. Attack speed is probably a much higher raw dps boost and much more consistent than armor penetration against champions who don't normally stack armor.

I can only imagine armor penetration as being more useful than attack speed if your enemy's armor is a consistent problem and most of your damage normally comes from auto-attacks.

The thing is, champions tend to have a naturally growing armor, which goes up to around 70, if I remember correctly.

Penetrating 20 or more of that is no laughing.

It basically means that your autoattacks deal true damage in the laning phase.
Scary for the opponents, right?
