@gundog,

I think that only applies to item slows. e.g. you can't have a frozen mallet + rylai's sceptor both slow someone, but you can(been tested) stack your frost arrow with a frozen mallet. Add a lizard buff into the mix for an extreme slow.

Edit: I'm actually going to double check this because the game mechanics thread disagrees with me. I'm 95% sure it's accurate, though.

Edit 2: I just did a quick test in a practice game:
Yi with movement 2 boots: 400 speed
Attacked with frozen mallet: 280 speed
Attacked with frozen mallet+lvl5 frost arrow: 196 speed

I meant to do frost arrow alone but I closed the game before I remembered. :s

Great guide. This is exactly how I play Ashe(beside using other items), should have checked for guides earlier (I messed up 2 games with her or so )

the only thing i'd change is the fact of getting more dmg before frozen mallet. u already have frost arrow and it works with volley. they're slow already and using flash (if u have as a spell) gets u in there close and owning. either Black Cleaver or Inifinity Edge before Frozen Mallet. Ashe is a dmg/attk speed. really no use for frozen mallet except for the HP...

but i do agree on the avarice blade/philospher's... good money and attributes.

Mallet is very viable as an early game item if you're getting harassed bad. You won't put out DPS when dead, so switching over to a support role and surviving sounds a little nicer.

As a generic first item? Hell no, but I've managed to survive AND help our team gank while being hit hard, and still ended the game with TONS of damage. My 'OMG SAVE MY OWN ASS' build goes like this:

Boots+2Heal+Mana Pot - Generic start unless I know I'll need a vampiric to stay in my lane
Boots->Swiftness - The speed lets you play chicken on tower dives and great for escapes
Phage or Giant's Belt - Depends if you want pure survival or a bit of utility early
Previous->Mallet - Such a mean item on Ashe. Ult + Volley + Arrow + Swiftness - Morgana or Yi are the only heros that won't be either dead or running home after this.

Usually this is enough gear to help you live through constant harassing. If they really have it out for you, though

Veil vs disables/magic damage heavy
Warmogs (yeah, really) vs light disables/heavy DPS - Atma's as a finishing item has GREAT synergy with mogs.

Otherwise, jsut do your DPS ashe as normal from here. Grab Infinity, followed by a Whisper or Wit's End for speed, or however you like it.

A dead Ashe is a useless Ashe. Early and constant harassment is commonplace for her, and being alive through it will help your end game MUCH MORE than getting items in the 'right' order.

the way i've actually chosen to play Ashe would be dmg/attk speed.
but dmg first, attk speed later.

Spells i recommend - Teleport and Flash(use only if you know you'll get the kill)
you really don't need Heal if you buy pots or if you're fellow champion has one.
Exhaust
is pointless because of your Frost Arrow.

my build at the beginning is:
BOS - boots of speed w/2 health pots and a mana pot.(works good if you're soloing)
remember to harass champions, don't go in for the kill, it'll only get you in trouble,
especially if you have two champions in your lane. build up your money
and creep kills. it's very important for Ashe to have A LOT of creep kills
to afford the DPS and if at all possible, try and solo. i find it great for Ashe
to just farm Creeps and Jungling. also Avarice Blade/Philosper's can benefit,
but i don't recommend it.

Once you reach lvl 7 or 8, you should be close to buying a B.F. Sword +50
dmg. iif you haven't died and have had many creep kills. this is the very
next thing i would get as soon as you have the money. it does wonders
on creeps and other Champions. i love it!
go back to killing creeps and farming more gold and maybe setting
up the occasional gank ifyou know you can get it. Remember to use Flash
if you have it. good combo with Frost Arrow!

Mid Game, you should by this time have finished the recipe for a Black Cleaver.
and either bought a Recurve Bow or even something else with Dmg like the
Pickaxe or even another B.F. Sword if you can afford one. hopefully by this
time you'll have you're Beserker's Greaves for the attk speed and movement.
Bloodrazor is an excellent item for Ashe as it adds to attk speed and dmg
as well as giving you armor. I would definitely recommend Bloodrazor,
especially if you end up getting two of them... you can cut through any
champion like paper.

The Late Game, there really nothing you can't kill if you've done it right.
by this time you should have ur boots, BC, one or two Razors, Edge,
Last Whisper, and a Banshee's Veil.
8 items i strongly recommend to dominate a game.

Skill order:
1. Volley (creep kills)
2. Frost Arrow
3. Volley
4. Frost
5. Volley
6. Crystal Arrow (obviously)
7. Volley
8. Volley
9. Frost
10. Frost
11. Crystal Arrow
12. Frost
13. Plentiful Bounty
14. Bounty
15. Bounty
16. Crystal Arrow
17. Bounty
18. Bounty

Things not to get with Ashe:

-LIFESTEAL items

This is just me... but i think it's absolutely POINTLESS to get any type of
Lifesteal... stay away from it. doesn't really benefit early or later on in the
game. I'd go with more of regen or buffing Ashe with health and mana,
but not until Endgame.

-ATTACK SPEED items

Now this, i'm NOT saying don't get them... just don't buy any early game.
not worth the attacking fast and not doing much dmg. life i said... B.F. Sword
asap!! Once you have all your items that do MASSIVE dmg, then get the
ATTK speed. maybe mid to late game.

-FROZEN MALLET

Unless you're getting it for the HP and dmg... i don't believe the frost arrow
and the slow on this item stack. if you're going to buy this item, do it Endgame.
But if i were you, i'd go with either Warmog's or Banshee's Veil Endgame.

if you do it all right, it should be GG for your enemies! but again, this is
my play style with Ashe... i'm all ears to opinions.

It's important to note that my guide is just essentially a very rough outline of what you should be doing with Ashe. You need to adjust your playstyle and items depending on what champions are on the other team and how they're playing. Don't just rush veil + edge every time because you read it here. Do what you think is LOGICAL followed by RIGHT.

And Phantom Dancers are still awful.

Some great advice here, definitely would not have considered Banshee's Veil unless I read all this. Veil adds SO much survivability. I haven't yet incorporated Frozen Mallet yet... I tend to ambush low to medium hp with Crystal Arrow and then they are pretty much dead anyways so I guess it's not really my play style.
