I just turned level 30 today and I had my first ranked match. I chose Taric because he is one of the few champions I have that I dont jungle with and is a solid support. I did pretty well, I went 5-5-18 for victory. Yeah it's a good score but I don't feel like I did that great. I had a really tough early game, we were being pushed back at our tower by Heimer and Vayne until mid game when we started grouping up (I was at bot lane with Xin).

Anyways, how can I be more effective early game even when you're pressed at your tower as Taric? If you have any builds for him it would be nice also. I currently just build Taric situationally.

Also, when it was time to ban champions, I wasn't too sure on which people to pick. Any tips on which champions to ban and any other ranked tips in general would be appreciated.

I dont own taric and have honestly only played him twice, so Im not going to try giving you advice. All Im going to say that taric/xin combo lets you go VERY aggressive. For bans, consider the following: Amumu, Annie, Gangplank, Twisted Fate, Rumble (especially this week), Udyr, Alistar, Yorick. The champions that are USUALLY banned are the first four I named.

1) Don't play ranked right after becoming 30. Too many people rush into it and fail. It usually takes another 100-200 games after reaching 30 to properly hone your skills/learn other champs/gather runes. You should be proficient in at least one of every type champ (tank, carry etc.) and have runes for them.
2) You're taric, as such you shouldn't be taking farm. Focus all your energy into harassing/zoning the other two. In your case that lane should've easily been won, seeing as a well placed stun on vayne would cause her to melt from Xin's damage.
3) Just in general, timing is everything, so don't just spam your abilities. Too many times I find that the moments where my abilities are needed most are when they are on cool down. Don't let this happen.

yea. play normal, try different champs, see which role you fit best (AP carry, AD carry, jungle, support, ect ect) and try to play 20+ games with dfifferent champs each to get the feel for how each plays, and narrow down a few you are best with. practice last hitting, and NEVER over-extend pass your river unless you have to or if you have a ward up and are certain you wont get ganked. the biggest problem i see with bads in ranked is that they constantly over-extend and or get zoned out of their lane denying their CS which causes them to become under-leveld and have no cash to buy items, and on the flip side this means the oppoenents of your lane are zoning you out well which means they have good CS and it turns into a big cluster**** if this happens.

Personally I like to play my support champions as pure support. I tend to rely on Philo Stone and Heart of Gold early as a source of income to let the person I'm laned with have the whole lane to farm comfortably. Preferable to have a ranged ad to support on bottom lane.

Very important to make sure you can help harrass and zone to help provide space for your partner to farm and if lucky enough to also set up an easy kill eventually, but the focus is to make sure you and your partner have space to farm gold early.

I tend to max heal first, but make sure within first 4 levels to grab level 1 stun and aura. I choose to max heal because thats kinda what separates your champion from many others to be able to reverse that damage.

Generally Taric can be mana intensive compared to many other support champions so if you find yourself short on mana, I would recommend Chalice to help support that as well as flat Mana regen Seals. I always run 0/9/21 on Taric with CV/Flash. 21 Utility is a must have for any support champion because it comes with CDR and mana regen which are most important to maintain your lanes.

So I generally start off with Boots, 1 sight ward, 1 H. Pot (Ward to help prevent jungle from being stolen or help defend mid or bot lane depending on where you place). Then I go, Philo Stone -> Heart of Gold -> (Chalice if I'm struggling on mana only) Ionian Boots.

After I get at the very least these 3 items, you can take your champion anywhere you need to go. I generally like to grab items that help the whole team like Aegis is great since you have an armor aura already, that just adds to your group buffs, Starks if you have more AD champs on team or Will of Ancients if more AP champs. Reverie is a must have because group movement speed can help you in and out of team fights and helps saves lives. Plus the CDR near maxes you out on top of Utility tree.

There are other paths you can take, you can be more tanky or maybe add to your AP for the heals or AD for damage. He's fairly flexible the most important part is that you focus on supporting your team, farming those assists and making sure your carries are able to keep on farming. Your heal and stun is your greatest advantage and only shatter if you really need to because remember that is really protecting your team and its gone once you use it.

Hope this helps you with my limited experience of Taric. He's a great champion, needs practice especially in terms of mana management and is fairly flexible. Seen him used in more ways than just the way I listed. I recommend also playing Normal before jumping into Ranked, decking yourself out in all Tier 3 Runes and THEN jumping in ranked after you get your whole rune setup. This is what I run personally if you need like a base to start with:

Marks: Armor Pen
Seals: Mana Regen (flat)
Glyphs: Magic Resist (flat)
Quint: Health (flat)

0 Offensive/9 Defensive -- max armor, magic resist talents/21 Utility -- Imp Flash/Clairvoyance

I don't get why people are saying that lane should be easy or he should play agressive... heimerdinger is a pain in the ass, if xin charges in he's going to get grenaded and owned by turrets. also vayne has a crossbow knockback, so if she gets in trouble she can just crossbow xin and tumble away, you're not catching her. In that lane he's doing a good job just by not feeding the hell out of vayne.
