Is Deathcap even necessary anymore?

Its still a good buy on mages with average + high ratios that rely on doing damage.

You just dont wanna rush it, get it later into the game.

Its kind of an "only if you're really fed" item now. Considering that it's a pure damage item that boosts other damage items, that kind of makes sense.

The 3 AP items include 120 AP and:
25% more AP
15 CDR, 15%CH, 20% bonus damage
45 armor and untargettable for 2 seconds

The first is good for all-around damage and aoe damage.
The second is good for single-target nuking.
The third is a defensive option.

It is not gold effective RIGHT AWAY. It has to be a 4-5th item, or it is a waste of gold for it's passive (the combine cost is purely to buy the passive/open up the inventory again).

It CAN'T be rushed effectively. You get more from buying two NLR than from buying a Dcap, for the same price. If you want more raw damage as most AP champs, DFG or Void Staff is a better option, and get Rabadon as a last item.

Problem is most people are still of the mind where "wtf why you no rush Rabadon." A good example build for an APC focused on sustained damage would be Haunting Guise, Sorcs, Rylia's, Liandries, Zhonya, Abysall. Rabadon/GA/Void. Another build for more bursty champs is Kages, Sorcs, Needless, DFG, Void, Rabadon, Morellos, Abysall.

Note that if you see Rabadon at all, it is very late in the item lineup.

its made to combine with other ap items for an increased effect. It's not a very cost effective stand alone item, no.

Deathcap is an efficient item on any champ that has about 100 AP that wants lots of cheap AP.
The more AP you plan to buy, the better.

Take a champ that scales weak from AP, like Sejuani, that would rather buy other things, and you don't want that deathcap.

But once a champ gets over about 100 AP, Deathcap is an attractive, efficient, focused pick.
