That isn't to say we want to water down silly ideas or dial back, what we want to do is find the best universal silliness possible.

The global community isn't necessarily on the same wavelength as maybe a skin like Brolaf or Gentleman Cho'gath. That doesn't make them not awesome, or make them off limits, it just means that we might want to expand what is appealing to a wider variety of people. Pool party Ziggs, Astronautilus, Battle Bunny Riven, those are all pretty universally appealing takes on humor.

We get a lot more discerning nowadays.Since the skin quality has also upped recently, when we do do more of a "fun" or silly skin we deck it out to the nines where previously we might just have geo swap. That makes light-hearted skins just as work intensive. We want to make them have the most thematic penetration throughout thier custom animations or particles.

Yes, we've gone a bit serious recently, but that will change. We need to make room for everything and introduce a bit more of a steady silly cadence into our releases I feel.
I don't want to digress too much, but what's the deal with Steel Legion Lux? You removed it from the PBE for weeks due to negative feedback (It's Lux's third "serious" skin in a row), then decided to change nothing? Was it only removed in hopes the general aggitation toward the skin would die down?

The problem is Pool Party Ziggs, Astronautilus and Battle Bunny Riven are totally unfunny, those might have a little of silliness on their desing but they are pretty far away from the silliness of Gentleman Cho Gath

As much as we in the US might be confused and possibly not interested in something so uniquely regional in another country, we have to remember that the rest of the world isn't always going to get what we here find amusing. Again, that's not to say we won't make a good idea, some ideas are just more universal, and I think we're better served by embracing what we universally find funny or silly.

It's pretty cool to see just how similar our sense of humor is when you look across the entire world!
I appreciate the need to make skins with global appeal. But how is baseball themed skin less universal than a Lu Bu Jarvan or the Masked Shaco skin?

They were all fan submissions also, which is something I'd like to see more of.

Beekeeper Singed was a submission that has been floating around the forums for years and I'd still buy that in a heartbeat because it's such a humorous idea.

I think the themes of Jarvan and Shaco for those skins is relevant on a cultural level that might even transcend sports. They're also appealing to a western audience for various reasons. Again, not to say that we wouldn't make something themed around baseball or another sport, but my suspicion is that our global demographic is dealing with a different type of ingrained cultural sensibility than professional sports. That includes the US in my opinion as well. That's just how I feel though. I could be wrong.

I don't think a baseball themed skin necessarily has to do anything with professional sports. Look at a character like Ness or Lil Slugger. It could even be a Warriors style Baseball Furies theme

Not before Beekeeper Singed, But I do like the idea.

While the sport of baseball may be popular all around the world, to much of the world, it's just not important. Indeed, Lil Slugger Trundle very much gives me the impression of stamping good ol' All-American-ness onto the game, because as popular as it is around the world, no country gets as excited about baseball as the United States. With Japan maybe being a close second. American football is most definitely another such sport, because most of the world calls a completely different sport "Football", one that we here in North America call "Soccer".

Whereas, Pool Party Ziggs is something everyone can appreciate. And Battle Bunny Riven? Who wouldn't like to see a rather masculine lass getting angry at being forced into a bunny suit and thrashing everyone that tries to ogle her?

And Arcade Sona is, like, the epitome of silliness that every LoL player can enjoy. Because we're all here, playing VIDEO GAMES! Heheh.

Also, there's Unprepared Garen. THIS SKIN MUST HAPPEN.

Except it was originally listed under Legendary skins. The Riot Birthday gift to us was the release of a legendary skin for 975 RP. You will note it actually has a different ability icon.
