Actually, let me put this in computer science terms. Shipping something -- that is, finishing -- is like compiling your program. You don't know for sure if something works until you compile it. You can go through your code line by line, you can print it out, you can wave your hands around and say it runs great, but you can't prove it until you compile it. That's why you need to do things you can show off. You need to prove you can really be as awesome as you say you can be.
It would be so sweet if compiling a project = being finished with it. Sooooo sweet.

Awesome, I'm on the right track then! Super excited, thanks <3

I am just curious to know the level of stupidity of someone.
I don't know, I'm starting to wonder the level of stupidity of those who bother responding me, just to talk about -my- level of stupidity.

Oh the terror of a Project IRL is nothing compared to School Projects. School Projects are 100x easier because everything is given to you.

Additionally, other ways to show analysis and detailed, engineered problem-solving apporaches are good. For example, Jatt could be a designer if he wanted because he proved this ability both through his time as a QA analyst (entry-level position) and his Shoutcasting analytics.

I started in QA (not at Riot, though) as well, and then learned about design from both external and internal sources.
Morello, where did you start at in QA?

I worked at Microsoft, on the XBox360 launch and as QA for Perfect Dark Zero. That experience + being in a top guild got me in as QA for ArenaNet, where I later became a designer.

Maybe more fuel for the fire, but for all those who feel like Riot's requirements are too extreme... have you considered the industry and position you are trying for?

The number of kids who grew up with video games that are now grown up and looking for work is huge. Video games aren't a hobby anymore, they are a multi-billion dollar industry. Riot can choose to be as selective as they want because their talent pool is so big. Small time indy developers or brand new companies may consider someone with less experience, but why should Riot? Their product is successful, they aren't in desperate need of anything. Why should they hire a kid straight out of school when there is someone with 10 years experience around and it isn't just one person either. There are hundreds and thousands of people who want to work for companies like Riot.

Sounds to me like the people who complain that Riot won't hire them out of school are the same people who buy into ELO hell as an excuse for their own short comings. Don't for one second think that any company will choose your interests over their own. If you have what they want, they'll check you out. If not, then you are just an easy resume for the trash can.

tl:dr - Riot is a successful company with the largest video game in the world, why should they hire any less than the absolute best.

No, I am looking down at you and asking you. Is it that hard to comprehend? Oh wait, it must be for you.

Because I'll bake them cookies. Well, more like stomach death with the appearance of cookies, but still.
